I find it hard to believe , as I read these replies , that people are bashing different 911's . Yours is better than mine ? Grow up...I would expect that nonsense in other venues , but not with Porsches . You sound like 20 year old , sideways hat wearing , Supra drivers .

it appears you haven't been around here very long -- such jokes are common |

"Super Carrera," as opposed to regular, run-of-the-mill, ordinary "Carreras."

What's not been mentioned is that in 356 terms, "SC" was reserved for the last of the line. And so it was thought that was the signal from Porsche with the 911SC -- that it would be the final and highest evolution of the 901 series.

How about this theory.
The long hood had a proper 911S, the racy one, you remember it. Internally, this would have been called the 911SA, if they knew what was to come. In 1974, Porsche built the smogged up middie models which they called the 911S strictly for marketing purposes. Internally they called it the 911SB, but never put that on the decklid. Finaly, in 1978, Porsche got their technology sorted, and they built the last of the true 911S cars - the 911SC, only this time they called it by it's internal designation because it sounded cool. As you can appreciate, Porsche found this a difficult story to tell, and of course not very sexy, so now they're just saying it stood for Super Carrera. We know it can't really stand for Super Carrera though because the 1984 models that came later were arguably (hey I'm an SC fan) better in every respect, so why would they go back to calling them just Carrera? If the SC was a Super Carrera, then the model that came next should have been Super Duper Carrera or something... I don't think we can close the book on this very important question just yet. Let's drag this on at least until the new year.

The 911 was supposed to be phased out of production in the mid 80s; to be replaced by the new Porsche 944. Porsche believed (at the time) that the last carnation of the 901 chassis was the 911SC and so it was named the Super Carrera.
Of course the Porsche 944 failed to replace the 911 just as the 928 has failed to replace it in the 70s.

Targa owners need love too, though most of them have evolved these days to driving Gaymans... er, I mean Caymans
