No, I didn't say that. I've been here and long time and read about this many times over on many threads. All I can say is that no one has proved this beyond speculation. Consider this, what does the L stand for on the 911L? What does the S stand for on a Carrera 4S? Or 2S? These are the designations for a wide body. The answers just don't exist.
edit to add: In earlier years the wide bodies were designated by "M491." I don't think they were gonna use "TL" for Turbo Look.

The "S" stands for "S"...and the "C" well it stands for "C" and "SC" stands for "SC". When used with 911 it stands for SC also as in 911SC.
![]() I think it meant nothing in 1978 but when Porsche updated the web page as referenced above (2003) it became "Super Carrerra". ![]() It doesn't matter, in three months this thread will be buried and someone else will ask the same question.

I figured SC was for starter Carrera the models leading up up to the real Carrera in 1984.
Then again mine has the factory badging delete option so nobody really knows what it is.

One of my Porsche books said it stood for "STANDARD CAR".
It was the base 911. Who knows?

It's a fun little mystery!
I've never seen what I consider a definitive answer. "Super Carrera" is a common answer, but I don't think correct. That was "invented" after the fact. It also doesn't really make any sense, given Porsche designations. "S" was always a designation, as was "Carrera." They have always been separate designations, with Carrera right above S. If the C stood for Carrera, the S would be redundant. It would be like calling an early 911S a 911ES. My guess is the S of course is for "Super," the C is likely because (1) it was roughly the third of the series (small bumper, big bumper, big bumper with flares), and (2) it was remniscent of the 356SC, which was the last of the 356 line. By the mid 70s, the 924 and 928 were well under development, with the 911 expected to be phased out by the early 80s. Last edited by the; 11-19-2008 at 09:30 PM.. |

That's right. It's relatively recent.

I don't think it stands for anything. It's just a designation. The only "SC" references are recent.
