Just wondering.

Sometimes I'm not sure, since mine spends too much time sitting in the garage under a cover.

A chance to own and enjoy one of the truly great cars on a daily basis.
OK, except not here in winter.

Couldn't afford the new Lotus Espirit so I settle for a PORSCHE.

I have loved cars, particularly sports cars, since I was a small child. And of all of the sports cars that I love, the 911 is the car that "does it" for me. Not sure why.
I autocrossed my RX-7 regularly back in 1982-84 in Central Ohio. There were 2 cars in particular that I loved watching -- an orange '72 911S (driven by a Dr. Glen Hanniger) & a lime green '74 Carrera (driven by Brook Mosgrove). Something about the purposefullness, the look & the sound made me realize that I had to have a 911. I wasn't able to buy my 911 until February 2001, but the wait only made it that much sweeter. Thankfully I got a good one. I tell my wife that my 911 is a good investment...an investment in my soul. I don't think I could ever sell my 911...but I would like to add a Cayman S to the garage at some point. While I appreciate the new 911s, they have evolved into more of a GT car. I think the Cayman is more like the older 911s -- smaller, more of a sports car.

I enjoy owning a car that is well built and worth working on, gratifying to drive and pleasant to look at. I did invest my time and money in it has a hobby, and now use it as a reliable daily driver. I like the old school, performance and simplicity of it.

I've had a series of Brit sports cars over the years (mostly Triumphs), and I'm of the age that started on well-used muscle cars. So I guess this was a natural progression. Oh, and I started to pay attention to racing other than 1/4 mile & NASCAR during the 70's & early 80's....'nuff said. |

As a boy I always loved the shape of the 911 over other cars. After reading a road and track featuring three 911s in 1986(Bahn-Stormers) I swore one day I would own one.

I've wanted one ever since the neighbor bought a black SC when I was about 5 years-old. What a gorgeous car. That the same basic body shape has held true for 45 years, now, is a testament to the "rightness" of the original aesthetic design. The unique flat-6 sound. The legendary performance and racing pedigree.
Those were the things that sold me on the car. But once I had actually purchased one and had a chance to drive it a bit, what I have since come to appreciate--what really sets this car apart--is how it feels to drive it. I've never driven anything else that communicated so well to the driver. The car may have its handling quirks (or flaws, depending on your perspective). But understeer, oversteer, under braking, under throttle: you feel it all. Every nuance and pavement texture and irregularity in the road is communicated to the driver. Not as nervousness or skittishness. But communicated for information's sake. And then set aside as the car gets down to its business. Every drive is an adventure.

Spent 40 years wanting one. Life get's in the way sometimes. Now it's a week-end driver. What a great way to lose 3-4 hours (or more) on Sat. and Sun.

I grew up in Orlando Fla. & with Daytona & Sebring not far away my buddies & I went to the 24 hr & 12 hr races every year. The sound of the 911 vs a v-8 still gives me chills when I hear them.

Mine is a fun big boy toy. I have had it for 13 years and I still get a big grin every time I drive it. Some of my friends have a boat or motorcycle or play golf. My wife understands that I like working on my toys and spending time in the garage. Overall the best part is after all the years it is worth pretty much what I paid for it. My motto for as long as I can remember is "You are never too old for a happy childhood"
