Are my plug wires shot? Ohm readings...

In trying to track down ignition problems on my '67S, I measured the resistance of my plug wires.

#1 = 1.256k
#2 = 1.267k
#3 = 1.012k
#4 = 1.041k
#5 = 1.057k
#6 = 1.024k

I'm finding various answers about the readings I should get. How do the above numbers look to the Pelican experts?

Thanks.

To clarify, I measured resistance with the plug connectors still attached.

I find it very odd that they are all that low. You should be seeing close to 4 for each wire. I could see one or two with low numbers, but not all of them, I guess unless they are all really old. Have you checked your multi-meter against a resistor to check it's accuracy? The leads on multi-meters have a finite life.

EDIT: oh wait, 67's I have no idea about those wires, ignore me.

Actually, your advice may be spot on. My multimeter does act a bit weird at times.

Disconnect and then measure.

What are the symptoms? What makes you think they're ignition-related?

Resistance tells you nothing about the insulation which is what keeps them from shorting out.

Those look about right for a copper core wire with a 1k resistor in the connector. What is your ignition problem? Is it missing? Is it cutting out?

If you have a wire that is shorting out you will get a miss. Unless it's the wire from the coil then it could cut out. If you don't have a miss then the problem is not with the spark plug wires.
