ignitor setup

I got the ignitor 2 setup for my 74 911s targa with a 2.7 and I can't figure out this kit. I got what you do with the red piece, but what is this black plastic piece? is it supposed to go at a certain spot and angle or what? also the wiring is kinda confusing on it. so a little help would be great.

thanks in advance

What's an "ignitor 2 setup"? Never heard of it, but that's probably just me.

Got mine a few days ago and it works great. Download the wiring diagram for CIS porsche on the pertronix website. the wiring diagram supplied is no good for the CIS.

after that the black magnet slides down on the rotor shaft. it can only go on one way to slide down all the way but can go on any way/angle. setup the gap using the small plastic gauge supplied.

once installed, check your timing. i found mine had moved around 15 degrees so had to setup again with a timing light

The top result named "untitled" is the ignitor wiring diagram for use with CIS. took me a while to find it the first time....

ok. where would I hook up the red wire then? I don't know where the ignition wire is on this car. Is the black just being hooked up to the wires that come off of it factory?

i hooked my red wire onto the lower of the 3 fuses on the LHS. on my one anyway this lower one is only live with the ignition on. i would check to confirm this is also the case with yours. The black one is hooked into the wire the points was originally connected to. you can then cut/slice wires as needed to make the install pretty.

if you leave the factory wires long enough you'ld still be able to go back to the points easy if you wanted to.

How did it work????

I have had mine in a couple of years and wonder why I waited so long to do the pertronix.

I went through the same thing with the wiring diagram....as I had CDI as well.

Basically, as you found out all you need is switched +12vdc for the red wire at the ignitor coil to power it. the rest is the same. I got my ++12vdc from the wire that goes to the Bosch CDI unit.

Good luck....you will love this unit.

By the way, I have carried a spare pertronix, AND a set of points with me just in case....so I have never had any problems because I am prepared!!
