Embarrassing, but I gotta share...
The magic moment came the other day - got the car started for the first time in six years!!!!! What an incredible day! The clouds parted, the sun shone and doves were fluttering about. I even heard the "holy light sound.":o
So I'm sitting in the car, feathering the throttle, my wife rushes out after hearing the beast roar to life and flashes the "thumbs up" sign. I'm grinning ear to ear, happier than all-get-out. Then it happened - she yells, what is that leaking under the car? As you can imagine, my heart stopped. In a nano-second I shut off the car and leaped out to see what appeared to be at least 5-quarts of liquid gold on the floor! Fu__ _ _ _ __ __k!!!#@!$&!!
Who wants to guess what happened?
.......I forgot to install the OC61. Yup, oil filter. Not only was there oil all over the floor, there was oil all over the clean motor - all over the new tins, the carbs, fan shroud, freshly painted engine bay, dripping down the newly ceramic-coated headers and new DANSK Sport muffler - you get the ugly picture. What a dumb ass.
Over the next several hours, I feverishly used every rag I could find in the house to sop-up all the oil as best as I could - dis-assembled everything, sopped-up some more oil and gently used "oil eater" and water to remove all the oil residue. I spent hours, sweating and working like a maniac to clean up the horrible mess I created.
My wife comes back out to remind me that I need to take a break and to come have some lunch. I laid down the hose, exhausted, drenched with sweat, disgusted at myself and went in the house. Things get worse. As we're sitting there eating, we hear the noise of running water coming from outside. I experienced a second heart-stoppage that same day. I ran out and found the garden hose had ruptured and was shooting a geyser straight up, thirty-feet in the air. Fu_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _k!!!#$@!##$!!
Water everywhere! Of course, I had laid down the hose next to the driver's side, with the window rolled down, so not only was the car drenched, there was water in the car. New sport seats wet, new carpet wet, door panels wet, and puddles on the floor pans and rear seat bottoms. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: Could things get any worse? I don't think so.
Fortunately, the car was painted inside & out so I was able to sop-up the water completely with relative ease and the thin Perlon RS carpets weren't hard to dry off. The new seats were not affected either, fortunately.
My daughter walks out, smiles and says, "Hey dad - your car's waterlogged again!"
Kids say the darnedest things.:)
