He doesn't have pictures up there. He calls these "blades". I have spoken to him about these bumpers and they are as I describe.

Small shop, very helpful. Give him a call.

Question

In the same vein I have an earlier '76 2.7.
On the passenger side of the engine compartment there is an oblong shaped cannister with tubes going to & fro.

I guess this is some kind of evaporative control for the fuel tank breather.

Can I remove this? Local laws do not require it to be fitted, I've actually never seen it on Euro cars but car started it's life in the US.

If so, what do I do with the pipes?
Does the main breather from the fuel tank (if the can is what I think it is) need to be fitted with a one way valve with the can gone?

Thanks,
JG

Jon,

That is what I call a charcoal canister and it is meant for some emissions purpose, but I am not sure what? The thing should not be that heavy though if you just want to leave it there.

It can be removed without harm to the engine, but I am not sure what to do with the hoses either?

My old VW had one of these things and I removed it without a problem but I cannot remember where the hoses went? Getting old and forgetful I suppose

I agree with RarlyL8. I want to cut weight where I can without making it un-streetable. My goals are to become competive in auto-X and run a little bit on the tracks. Definately do not want to create an all out racer though. Also need to embarass Ricers when the opportunity arrises

I am going to the local SCCA Solo II this Sunday in Atlanta at Turner Field if anyone wants to meet there? I am not racing, just scoping out the Rice and having a few beers. Probably going to ride with my buddy in a white 993 cab with 18" speedlines if you see us down there. I hear the SCCA racers are nuts with mondo burnouts and 3 wheel action corners!

Also to note. Keep weight up front and minimize rear weight. Many experienced auto-xers have told me to keep the spare up front to balance the F/R weight bias. I think the car handles better with a heavier nose also. So that is why I want to drop rear weight so badly is to get a more neutral car.

Thanks,
