Interesting that folks are getting more out of a 3.6 with Motec than a 3.8 on Motronic...

Hi Jeremy - sorry to read about your troubles. Fingers crossed you are all sorted and ready to go before long.

You are right about the Motec 3.6s - lots of hp once they have decent cams in them. Purely as an observation, I have heard lots of stories over here about 3.8s that never make great hp - and thats from owners of multiple 3.8RSs who ought to know.

In theory, Motec shouldn't really do any better than Motronic, its just fuel and ignition maps right? Sure Motec may have more resolution in the maps and give you sequential injection and individual cylinder trim but those are of very small benefit. I think its just that tuners like working with Motec and are happy to spend more time to get the engine tuned just so. Motronic on the other hand, is in comparison a PITA to work with. Remapped Motronic 3.6s over here do ok though and all seem to make 280+hp.

Thanks - it happens - and in the whole scheme of things - better to happen at this stage than turn 17 at 100 mph...

Yeah - not cheap - but either is opening up the engine.

Just do it. You will be happy with it and have no regrets. I'm going to be going down that route here shortly. Have the 3.6 in my garage. But I'm going to run a 3.8 on Motec... Eventually. Lol

Heads are taking a little longer than I had hoped - but got the 993ss cams from a buddy - for a buddy price - and the P & C's are here.

Putting on 993 head studs too - as I would prefer not to have to go back in and replace a head stud later.

Hey Jeremy,
You have done great things with the car. I am glad I sold it to the right person.
Sorry to hear about LA Dism.
Looking forward to the final build...

Take care,
Al Z

Thanks Al - glad you feel that way - Doug - I'm having my shop do the assembly - I really don't have the time right now...

The good news is that all the valves measured out - so don't have to replace any of those. Of course, the savings will be eaten up by using a better quality spring and retainers - but with the 993ss cams - that probably makes more sense anyway.

A little longer time frame than I had hoped - but they are in the middle of their busy season getting everybody ready for 2012 racing!

Heads arrived yesterday. Nicely packed and media blasted

My P & C's are on - went with 993 studs to make sure it all stays together. Hopefully have back by the first of the year. Great way to start off 2012!

Seems that the ideal would be a 3.8 with Motec
Isn't 9meister in the uk getting over 400hp from 3.8 ( mateo's car) and even more from their custom 4.0 ?
