911sc caliper finish

I'm trying to find out what the original finish was on 911sc calipers. Yes, I searched, but everything I found was about early cars or turbos.

SCs have M in back, A in front, right? I searched and found that M's were cad plated in the 70's... was that still the case in the 80's? I also heard the A's were silver, but I'm not sure is they were plated, coated, or what. Were they powder coated silver? Since I'm rebuilding some old, rusty calipers, I think it would be cool to make them look how they did when the car was new.

Thanks.

Eric at PMB Performance has determined that the calipers are generally a very light yellow zinc plating. If you split the halves you will generally see the original plating on the mating parts. It is often more cost effective to have him do them, than to do them yourself.

Any serious finish, plating, will involve splitting the calipers apart. Do some research on that first otherwise paint is an option. Eastwood has some high temp paint that gets pretty close to the cadmium finish. There steel so you need some kind of coating on them to prevent corrosion. Chrome or nickle would look cool!!

try gold line

+ 1 on the yellow cad coating. Unless you want concours restoration, another color may look better.

Gold line brakes in Seattle, WA does complete, no BS caliper rebuilds, and polymer coats brake calipers in any color you like. Red is good. They say that the polymer coating does not form a thermal barrier.

Great service and reasonably priced. How can you beat that?

I appreciate all the comments. But I'm really hoping to hear from somebody who knows what the finish was for 911SCs. I've read Eric's thread, but those were from an earlier car. I've heard SC calipers were all silver in color, even though the rears are Ms like in Eric's thread.

So I'm interested in what the color was, and also what the method was. If they were silver, what kind of finish is that? A type of plating? Powder coat?

Brake caliper color

Sounds like you are interested in reproducing the original look with your calipers. for your SC.

I just completed a rebuild on the brakes on a 1980 SC, and have been looking for a chance to show off the result. The calipers had a bit of rust and lots or grunge. They cleaned up pretty well using brake cleaner and wire brush. the clean up revealed a dull silver original finish. May have been a bit brighter when new. Sorry I didn't take pics at that stage for you to look at. But the Ace silver Hi Temp paint I used to refinish looked similar in color, quite a bit shinier than original. I also picked up some black paint to do the fasteners with but came to the conclusion that was a bit over the top for me.
The plated pieces of the earlier reply look a bit more yellow than what I found on my calipers. Probably longer lasting than the paint I used tho.
By the way the rust prof coating on the rotors ( from pelican) looks very nice now, hope they stay so nice
Hope this helps
Richard
