Yep she knows.....
Gave her the 914 to drive any time. Which lead to a totally new suspension upgrade for Autocross, and upgraded brakes. She did a lot of the wrenching on it too, and saw and helped with the bills.

yes, my wife knows. when i was looking, i had kind of settled on a 81 SC that ended up needing expensive repairs. while i was slowly deciding that the SC wasn't going to be the car, my wife pointed at a 84 targa and whispered "that's pretty". i said that was out of the price range she had given me. pfft, says she, make him an offer.
the rest is history. it's half hers, both de facto and de jure, but she has never driven it. |

My lovely wife does all the books here so it's pretty hard to sneak anything of any size through....plus I've got the worlds worst poker face...

She knew about the purchase price of my SC beforehand, and was cool about it. Could have been because my son totaled my 996. I did all the upgrades with her credit car. Bad move. We compromised on a continued love life, and I pay off the bill. Works for me.

My wife didn't even know I bought one until the delivery driver couldn't find my cell number and decided to just punch the address into his GPS and showed up at the house with it. That was 2 years ago and she still doesn't know how much I paid.

My apologies for the long winded reply, but felt the need to do so…. I met my wife nearly 19 years ago, and the day I met her, I was wearing a t-shirt with a 73 RS picture on it. One night, during study hour, I wrote on the back of a picture of a 1994 3.6 Turbo that I would buy a 911 before I was 30 years old. We got married and a few years before my 30th birthday, the opportunity came up to buy a 80 SC, but I decided not to get it (though I had her full approval to do so). Few years later, right before my 30th birthday, I was about to purchase a ’94 964, but instead opted to get the BMW M Coupe that belonged to her dad who had recently passed away. Fast forwards two years, our twin boys were born, so I naturally needed a “practical family car”, so I got a ’99 996 (without having sold the M Coupe…). Still with a 911, I got other toys (boat and motorcycle) and she never complained at all. When I sold the 996, got the Cayenne and gave it to her and I took her 8 year old truck. She has known exactly how much I paid for everything and not once has she ever questioned me on anything. Just the other day she asked me “so when you getting a 911 again? You must be hating driving that old truck for so long now”. Think I would trade her for anyone?!

I LOVE this thread!!!
This is my first Porsche and a learning experience indeed!!!
She does basically know. When I first said I was selling the practical family vehicle to buy a 911 she was ...well... uhmmm... hesitant... but knowing it was my dream car she agreed and actually went looking with me as well. We narrowed it down to 2 and picked the Cab. She has been pretty good about it but as things are starting to add up I hesitate to be ... precise..., yes, the extras are starting to be another thing, AND yesterday, while getting yet another thing done on the car that I have had less than 3mths., driven a handful of times (a $300 oil change and tranny fluid change but money very well spent long term) the mechanic says " be prepared to spend around another $1500 very soon" for this and that, at which point she reminded me of the "no cost and no problems" low kms Honda I sold to get this ![]() I think at this point I am trying not to remind myself ![]() Thinking of the extras it is costing me and knowing that the $1500 far from the end of it, knowing that when it is done, it will be a great ride and that it is far more cool than my CRV definitely helps... besides... not too many people dream of owning a CRV

I wanted a brand new classic car so I bought a project car during the worst part of the recession. (I was working out of town and making less $) She said she couldn't say no to me knowing how long I've wanted a 911. (It really was a good deal) It's been a year and a half since the project started and at this pace, it will be done in 5-6 years. To speed things up, I'm prodding her to buy a Mini Cooper. (That's what she wants) It should cut my timeline in half and I'll get to drive "her car" once in a while. Now if I can just convince her to get the six speed instead of the auto.
I'm afraid not to tell her the cost (a lesson I learned long ago) however I do tend to leave out the shipping charges.
