Early 911 Aficionados Only:
As a diehard 'early' fan, I'm curious if we have anybody in the 'bullpen', so to speak. Are there any early 911 (65-73) owners or wannabees out there in their 20's or teens? Sure, we've got people like pwd and others who actually bought these early cars brand new (or nearly so). And then you've got a lot of guys like me who were junior high and high school age when Porsche was in their heyday at LeMans and the CanAm in the late 60's and 70's. The connection to the early cars is clear for us. But what about you guys who grew up with Porsche's later racing programs and road cars? Can you understand the attraction of the pre-74 911?
So who's the youngest early 911 fan out there? -- Curt P.S. This is a purely selfish post. I'm trying to assess the potential market 10-20 years from now.

Im 23 and absolutely love the early 911s. I started my p-life with a 74 914 2.0 and now have an 86 944 and 76 911s. I beleive that the older porsches are more of pure sports cars than the newer models. Just look at what they are building now.

I doubt I'm the youngest, but I'm here. My dream car is a 73 S coupe. I chickened out and got the 89 for daily (weekend) driver/rust purposes. Don't get me wrong -- I love the 89, especially as compared to the 993's and more so the 996's, and the 73 is the ultimate example of the purity that Porsches stand for (in my opinion). At some point, I'm going to get the 73 and keep is as a garage queen, but I can't afford two of them right now.
The reason I choose the 73 S is the pre-bellows appeal, as well as the power to weight ratio. Great little cars. Just next to impossible to maintain in the northeast. The answer to your question is PLEASE continue to maintain and cherish your early 911s, because people like me WILL want to buy them.

26 years old, but, um 27 in a few weeks.
I have the '69 and pretty much fully subscribe to the whole R-Gruppe concept of hot-rodding early cars. Why? - because they have more chrome and less weight, and look it. If building a replica race car it would be an R or and S-T, not and RSR. I like old cars though - I think that is the first pre-requisite. The competitive history of 60s and 70s 911s is nice but not in my living memory. Early Porsches have to attract through their 60's charm and (relative) high performance. I also have the '75 which reminds me how the cars changed (very little, IMO, except for the bumpers and the torquey not revvy engine). Well, it would remind me if I put it back together.

I'm 25 and my first early 911, a 73 ROW "T" "project and a half" arrived in the driveway this morning.
I also have a 912E and a 64 Volvo P1800S. I don't really enjoy newer cars. I sold my 3.2 Carrera in favor of the old 912E years ago. My roommate Brian is 24 and just bought a 72 "T". Later, David |

Hehe I guess I barely qualify at 29
The Early cars don't quite have the 'magazine stats' (0-60, cornering etc) of many other modern cars, but to me they're by far the most fun to drive. Also, I swear mine has a real personality - some days it's happy and goes like the wind, other days it's a bit grumpy Brad

Well I'm 23 and I own a 1970 911S silver/black none sunroof. A while back I was doing the math, I figure if the original owner was a conservative 40 years when he bought it in 1970 today he would be 72!!! I have to say the car is in great shape it makes me want to hit the gym so I can look that good at 32. Each and every time I see the car I feel like a caretaker of history. I cannot wait for spring.

Well, I'm 33 now but I was 18 when I bought my 72E back in 1987. It was my second car, first was a 69 Triumph Spitfire. Both cars needed a lot of work to be considered "nice cars". Thats what it is all about though.
I wanted the 911 for as long as I could remember. I didn't know alot about the specs then and now consider myself lucky that I wound op with the car I did. I don't intend to get rid of it ever! So I was a P-car freak long ago in a little town where there were only two other 911's. I had no outside help, it all came from inside. So I'm 33 stalled on 18! Dennis H. 72 911E

When I started my 911 search I was shopping for a daily driver with A/C and the creature comforts of power windows, mirrors, etc. My budget dictated that I stay in the SC model years. I'll never give up my '81 but someday I'll build a nice '73 RS clone for weekend trips to the grocery store.
![]() Actually, I'm hot for a 911R clone right now. There's even a '66 for sale near me...

NYSCAR, where in NYC are you?
I'm thinking beers and driving, not necessarily in that order. Have you tried a get-together with some city guys?

I'm 16
I own a big project, a 1969 911T Targa and am currently trying to get it running. Just drained and removed the gas tank and I have never seen gas that dirty. |

I'm on the west side at 60th and 9th, and I usually park the car at a garage at 50th and 9th. Right now it is outside the city in 'hibernation', though I plan to wake her up in a few weeks
After that I'm definitely planning on organizing some sort of get together for local pelicanites and whoever else wants to come Stay tuned, I'll come up with some more info in a couple of weeks...of course even before then I'm always up for some beer in the city ![]() Brad

I'm fifteen and have been a COMPLETE Porsche fanatic for about two years now. My FAVORITE model Porsches are the early 911s (the earlier the better.) With my obsession, last year, I convinced my dad to buy a 1967 911 coupe so we could restore it together, and that's been our project.
Here are two links off of my webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/tylermerkel/911project.html http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/tylermerkel/me.html (this second link has a picture of me with the 911)

When I was 11 I loved all 911s. That was fourteen years ago. At 22, I bought my first Porsche: a '76 911S, and two years later, when I began to research the '73 RS and RSR, I sold my 911S to my good friend, Adam Chaplin so I could buy a Euro-spec '74 Carrera 2.7.
You all know the story now: the Euro-spec Carreras from '74 (and '75) are mechanically identical to the RS Touring, but because they have impact bumpers, and because they made more of them, they're half of the price of an original RS Touring. I'm never going to buy another Porsche. Well, that's not entirely true! If I wind up with enough cash before internal combustion engines are banned, I'd like to build an RSR replica. If my car is stolen, or if I slam into an armco and total it (let's be realistic!), then I will replace it, if I can, with another Carrera 2.7. The point is, I'm now a helpless devotee of these MFI-injected 911s. I'm 19 and just inherited my uncle's 1971 911T. That's right I did not buy it. My aunt decided to give it to me because that was my favorite car ever since I was a little kid (I still may be a little kid to some of you.) I love the early cars. I really like the simplicity of them, without all the extra fat that smog laws, and creature comforts added to the later models. Since I live in CA I also love the fact that pre '74 cars are smog exempt. Which means I can build my car how it should be built. So in answer to your question yes the younger generation can appreciate the earlier cars.

Nyscar, Jgordon, why don't you guys join us at Metro NY PCA's Autocross school this Sunday out on Long Island.
www.metronypca.org has details, might be of interest. Although I think we should splinter the club and have a "Manhattan" branch-- the realities of Porsche ownership here don't translate well to the two-car-garage set.

I guess I'm a bit out of the "young" category at 37 though I feel 18 when driving my '73 T. That's gotta count for something.
I've lusted after an early 911 since my teen days when I helped my Dad mechanically restore a 67 912. (Back when he was a "foreign car" mechanic when foreign cars were, well...foreign. When Datsun was Datsun ;-). Anyway...it took me nearly 20 years to get one and I'm giddy as a schoolboy whenever I'me behind teh wheel. Drove it On Saturday. I love this mild NY "winter". NYSCAR, JGordon - let em know when you're up to getting together. It would be fun to check out each others cars and swap stories. I'm in Hoboken but work in the city. Beers & Porsche stories, sounds great!

Thanks, Curt, for starting this thread. The response so far is heart warming, to say the least. You guys are great (!) and very important to the survival of these cars - keep it up and Godspeed.
