991 Pics from Frankfurt
These were taken today at the show by a close friend who is in attendance... Enjoy!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Although I got a video from last night's worldwide introduction of the car, its very short and shows the car coming off a platform that raises from under the stage, and then the car is driven slowly around the stage while the platform goes down with the requisite smoke around it... Don't know how to upload the 30 sec. or so video but you get the idea... |

Trying to like it..Front looks good. The side view looks good..Nice wide shape. What I don't like it being longer and rear look- rear lights to narrow..

Rear lights remind me of the 928 and 928S in the way that they're countersunk into the fascia. I don't mind it other than the fact that countersinking them means that the 991 will never have a red reflector between the tail lights. Too bad, I like the connected tal lights look.
The model designation reminds me of a run-on sentence... way too over done.

Thanks for sharing. The front spoiler reminds me of a cross between a 997 GT3 (center) and a 996 Turbo (sides). The only way to know that it's not an Aston from the rear is the duck tail. I though the Cayenne Turbo S had the longest script on a rear hatch, but this one takes the cake! Side is fine. Better looking wheels would help. I am sure that sooner than later it will be all the craze and in typical fashion, previous models will be frowned upon (except for longhoods!)

Now that I think about it, with the new size increase, the 991 has to be the same or even bigger than the entry Aston V-8, which was shrunken from the DB9 to compete with the 997... Looks more like a GT than a coupe although curious to see if development on the racing end has started given that this year, the F458 Italia's have been very dominant, and already clinched the GTE crown this year overseas with Fisichella and Bruni at the helm...

I just read that the designers were influenced by the Audi R8?
If so I wonder if there is any R8 under that at all?

Has anyone seen spy shots of the new cayman?
I think it is the current 911 chassis continued, but with mid engine! I need to see clearer pics, but that was my first impression when I saw the Cayman in the October road and track

Just another evolution in the WRONG direction. The car looks less and less like a 911 with every new iteration. What pathetic design decisions!

I agree with the skeptics. Looks less and less like a 911. Tries to look generic like everybody else. Too many gratuitous bulges. A lot less FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION and more FORMS WITHOUT FUNCTION!

The tall profile of the rear bumper area and the distance from the ground to the bottom of the tail lights reminds me of a loading dock. I still love the big 991 and the new center console interior is way cool. The air cooled 911's will never go out of style either. Choices are good.

Ducktail and engine louvers! I LOVE IT! People usually don't like change...but compare this to the 996 and I see real style here.
Sweet!

*different*
Definitely see Panamera dna there, a GT or a 2 door Panamera...... The reality of permanent progression away from our beloved air-cooled 911 DNA (lite-nimble-pure sports car) evolving on past the 997 towards a true, big GT. What bugs me about this is, Aston Martin, Bentley, Audi etc have all in recent years tried to pull away 911 buyers by drawing from the styling and power/performance of the 911, it was them going after us.... Now the 991 looks like we (Porsche) are going after their market -> big - heavy - over the top luxury beasts.... Now that is sad..With all that being said, this isn't a shock to me, we have all seen this coming, haven't we? And I for one would still love to own one of these uber luxury GTs, I could easily see myself cruising out to LV, I just wouldn't want to drop 6 figures on it. The modern 911GT is still a fun car to drive, blindingly fast, powerful beasts, but alas they are completely different cars then they used to be, some might say "separated from the original 911 DNA". Is the 991 the end of Porsche as we knew it? No no no no, it's just *different*...

I think it looks good and is easily recognized as a 911.
They could save a few bucks by leaving off some of the badging that's on the rear end. ![]() My suggestion is to just have "Carrera".

Despite being longer & wider than the 997.2, the 911 is lighter than its predecessor and more powerful. Some say it's a step toward being a rear-engined M3 or GT-R, but I say it's a design worthy of carrying on the 911 flag.

I wasn't aware of the ducktail being there. Never showed up in the spy shots, just the retractable spolier. Does the ducktail move?
