Not a girly car at all. I really like the rear fender flares. A lot of work having the roof to fit i suppose

Who sells a 930 turbo fender flares, rocker moldings in steel for a okay price?

I'm not sure if the OP knows what team he wants to bat for. He is either trolling Cab and Targa owners, or he has an odd obsession with guys dressed up as girls, and this is the only way he can show it. Or both.

The only excuse anyone needs to turn a Cab into a coupe is that they have the desire to do so. Putting other people down because they don't is a little weird. Posting pictures of men dressed up as women is a lot weird - in a car forum. I can't imagine where a so called straight guy would find such pictures.

Again, if you are into that, fine. Just don't be a hypocrite about it.

thx for the feedback daniel.

once the roof clip was up in the air i was able to get an idea of where i might make the cuts. i figured better to cut off too little than too much. the front was the first.

i measured the sheetmetal on my cab/targa above the windshield. i lifted the rubber windsheild trim and jammed a small steel rule as far down as it would go. presumably bottoming out on the window trim. it was about 44mm. i assumed a 40 mm cut from the front of the clip would be safe. i marked with my kids sharpie and grabbed the angle grinder w/cutoff wheel....

if i had to do it over again i would have cut it way longer. maybe 15mm from the front edge....more on that when i get a chance to go through the pics. it looked like this after the first pass.

the top was close to fitting in the front so i lowered it into place to match up with the rain gutters. it was not a perfect match. the coupe roof seemed about a quarter of an inch wider than the cab/targa a-pillars. but i also noticed that the sheet metal was sagging a bit in the front center of the roof. i hoped i could get it straightened out or i should say curved out more.

i cleaned up the inside of the roof where it would sit over the quarter panels to remove any vertical sheet metal. that way it would sit flush on the targa body.

on the c-pillars i started cutting away what i knew would not stay. i made sure to only cut a bit off at a time. i figured i could always grind away more as it came closer to fitting it all together.

i tried to use a plasma cutter to expedite things but only succeeded in filling my garage with toxic smoke from burnt paint and charcoaled undercairage goo. but it was definitely coming together. total cost to date $500+$6 supplies.

I'm quite happy cruising around in my "girly" widebody twin turbo cabriolet... bring on the warm weather... top down twin turbo heaven. Nothing compares

as i get closer to having a good fit, i find that i am grinding smaller and smaller pieces off the c-pillar. currently the roof sits like this.

from a short distance the car kinda resembles a coupe.

i took the angle grinder and went to town on the roof sheetmetal between the b and c pillars

i finally ground enough on the curve of the c-pillar for it to sit with the sheet metal between the b & c pillars flush on the top of the rear quarter panels. i popped the windows in just to get an idea of what it would look like.

Repaint it either pink or baby blue, with matching wheel inserts, and the subliminal message will become clear...

This is a great thread and the skill being exhibited, or faked with the use of photoshop , is really kuhl.

I would want doors with the windows fitted to close before I welded anything. Looks good.

having no idea how to move forward i decided i would be better off to switch gears and do another phase of the project. I finished the body work and decided i would focus on the doors. i test fitted a set of coupe window frames.

a few minutes of dremel work at the front of the window channel and they fit fine.

the cab/targa window rails are dift. then the coupes. i hacked up the cab window holder by removing the big plastic thing on the left of the window rail. it required me to drill out two rivets.

i spent a lot of time sitting in the driver seat looking up at the roof and making vroom vroom sounds.

in the back i welded up the rod i used earlier as a brace and welded it to the inside of the c-pillar. then i drilled down into the parcel shelf and added some large sheet metal screws. looked like this....

being excited about my new coupe...lacking any windows or common sense i drove it to work the next day after duct taping it up at the front. i took all back roads and had a max speed of 35. i got some looks in the parking lot. obviously jealous.

i removed the window frames andi put the windows back in. this time the window frames were getting caught up on the window. after finally getting the frame down i could only roll up the windows about 2/3 of the way. as it turns out the cab/targa windows are different from the coupe windows and not interchangeable.

Finding myself with some time while i hunted down a set of coupe door windows i decided to throw a coat of primer on the car.

still no windows, i figured i would edge the car. (i assume its just like painting a room in a house)

things seemed to be going really well so i decided not to stop with just the edge work. a half hour later i had the car painted with the first coat. After a cup of coffee i put the second coat on.

I let it dry overnight, peeled off the plastic and put a few of the parts back on (doors, hood, tail). i am truly surprised by how much better this paint job was than my first. i did this inside the garage in the morning in early fall. My last paint job was later in the afternoon in late spring on the driveway. The first job had soo many bugs and other contaminants in it i had to do a lot of wet sanding. This one looked much better. no bugs no wet sanding.

In the "Better never then late" dept...
Just realized you have missed the opportunity to get rid of the rain gutters. (One of the cooler mods in my book.)

sadly i got an extra math gene but got shorted on the cool gene.
i actually took painstaking effort to preserve the rain gutter. I thought it made the coupe look faster when it was standing still.

i will add "remove rain gutters" to my list of stuff to look at doing...seems like a lot of work though. what book? I wouldnt mind researching some other cool mods.

my cousin works for northrop grumman. they inadvertently ordered about 200 extra gallons of radar absorbing stealth bomber paint. i can get you a can for about $700. pls send cash. i promise you wont get a ticket.

ppg alk-200 ($45) in a harbor freight ($29) hvlp...silly cheap and idiot proof.

im sure sears' weatherbeater with a roller would look almost as good.

seeing as its cold now i will wait till it warms up in the spring to put a final coat and then clear it with a matte clearcoat; unless i see a lot of bugs this spring.
