Tom, the car looks fantastic. That silver has always been my favourite!!
So awesome that you got her roadworthy in time for spring. I had Ruby out for a run today. She's been mothballed since November and it's easy to forget how visceral the 3.6 is in a light car. It's jaw dropping and down right offensive.... the noise, the power, the rush. I'm down to one point on the driver's licence but it's just impossible not to put your foot in it over and over and over. By comparison, my 85 unmodified 3.2 feels like a Civic. The 3.6 Conversion's are so in your face. I'm telling you, your cheeks will be sore from smiling and you will both laugh and swear out loud when you are driving this thing. We will have to get Larry on the tach issue. Will be working on the 68 in the morning...you should drop down to the valley.

The tach is fixed. When I installed the purple signal wire from the new DME I was supposed to remove both black wires from the connectors. Once I removed the second wire the tach worked perfectly.
Back to what I said earlier about this forum, there's nothing you can't do or fix with this support system. In my biased opinion I had the best sounding car at the track! However, highway cruising was nasty until I blocked one of the outlets. Next up. after another great track season, it's finally time to set up my suspension properly. Thanks to all the discussions and recommendations on this forum, I have a game plan. All rubber bushings are being replaced with solid bushings. I decided I don't want to deal with grease fittings, so I'm going with Rebels rear bushing kit and Elephants spherical control arm bushings up front. I found Elephant's suspension builder invaluable when making my final decisions. My initial order of goodies showed up yesterday from our host.
![]() So far I have the Rebel bushings, 22mm Tarret sway bars (I already had 22mm Carrera front bar and 22mm Weltmeister rear bar), camber plate monoballs, trailing arm monoballs, Quickchange spring plates, rear wheel bearings (while your in there syndrome) and decambered ball joints .I want to talk to Chuck first before I place my second order. My biggest stumbling block is what size torsion bars to go with. I'm also going to send my struts to Chuck to have him raise the spindles and install his racing bump steer kit. I'm pretty sure I'll also need my bilsteins revalved. I have everything apart and happy to report that, except for some well needed cleaning, everything looked as it should for a 34 year old suspension . It's been a long winter so far and finding it hard to get motivated these days. I did manage to spend a little time on the car while I wait for the modified strut and other goodies from Elephant. I partially installed the front sway bar and cleaned up the inner fenders.

While I'm still waiting for my final box of goodies from Chuck (Canadian customs are painful) I decided to install the front and rear mono-ball cartridges this evening.
The front were a simple matter of cutting the rubber off with a utility knife and screwing the cartridge in place. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The rears were a little more fun/entertaining,
For this stage, I was inspired by Craig D's tricks from his suspension rebuild last winter. The instructions say to warm up the aluminum bananna arm in hot water and press in. I took it a step further and cooled the mono-balls off in the freezer over night. I used some pieces from the local Canadian Tire to make my homemade press. They slide right in and I practically turned the nuts by hand to slide the cartridges in. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm still waiting for my final shipment of parts (she'll be really impressed when they show up ![]() First off, I decided to get rid of my center console and relocated the AC fan switch to the speaker fader spot. I also removed the cruise control switch while I had the steering wheel off. And, yes I know the interior is a little dirty/dusty. ![]() ![]() I painted the exposed metal on my rear rotors ![]() |

I have the front A-arms prepped and waiting (thanks Larry)

I finished installing the Rebel bushings and Elephant Racing spring plates.
Installation includes grinding the spring plate tubes to the right diameter, grinding the torsion tube to the right diameter to accept the stainless steel bushing, shimming the cover plate so there is no binding and finally JB welding the inner bushing in while everything gets bolted up. I did run into a little confusion on how to install but thanks to this forum everything became clear and install went smoothly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The final batch of parts showed up yesterday and I was hard at it today.

![]() I installed the struts and front brakes and put some fresh Motul 600 brake fluid in. Check out my homemade power bleeder. ![]() ![]() Races are epoxied on the control arms. I'll let it set over night and install tomorrow. Then the fun starts setting the ride height, alignment and finally corner balance. ![]() |

I installed the Elephant Racing sphericals today. Those things are unbelievable. The nice thing is you don't need to worry about the angle of installation since they just swing in the wind when bolted up.
Tightening the ball joints was an adventure. That's a homemade tool build from an old socket. ![]() ![]() I spent allot of time getting a preliminary ride height and did a quick and dirty string alignment before I took the car off the jack stands. I would jack up each individual control arm until it started to come off the jack stand, take measurements and repeat. Man, I wish I had a hoist. ![]() ON the ground for the first time since December. The front end is a little low. Looks like I dialed in more than enough camber. Those camber max adjusters for the rear made it allot easier to keep the camber while your setting the toe. ![]() ![]() |

One question about the hoses to the thermostat and oil cooler, which size did you use on the hoses? Is it AN10 or AN12? I'm mounting oil cooler on my car but I have the 3.2 engine and I'm interested to get input on what size works and what don't work...

My initial setup was the tripod method. I balanced the front with a jack (tires removed) in the very middle of the front cross member. I then adjusted the rear heights but only used the fender heights as a guide to get me close. Then I switched ends and pivoted the rear end on a jack and adjusted the front heights. I spent last year playing around with alignment settings, etc and lots of on track "testing". I ran into a problem with the left rear tire rubbing up inside the fender on the track even with -3 deg. camber. After chasing possible reasons I've concluded that the 29mm rear T-bars are too soft combined with the Rebel bushings. I ordered 33mm bars to hopefully solve this issue. I'm running 255/40/17 RE-11A's. I could have raised the hide height but that would be too easy. Anyway, once this is done my plan is to try and source some scales. We should join forces on this as I believe there are only two sets of scales in the Maritimes. I plan on reaching out and offering some cash to "rent" the scales. I'm open to suggestions. |
