You did a great job installing the exhaust, shure gives the tail in that balanced look and I'll bet you will love the sound. Can't wait to hear it. With your progress you will be at start up before you know it! Keep up the great work!

I just had my first and hopefully only major set-back. I just got word from the DME programmer that the DME I bought from Nineapart had lived under water!!
Looks like it had been opened previously as well. I'm back on a search for a DME. Any suggestions of where to look for a replacement? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just got off the phone with Steve. Apparently FVD in Germany has a new way of programming my '96 brain. I's a little pricey at $1995 especially since I'm already out $400 from the used brain I found here in Canada. Steve said he''ll help me out on the pricing. I think he feels sorry for me.
Here's the link if anyone else requires programming of a '96 DME FVD Brombacher Online Shop |

![]() What happened to the one in the Donor Car from Garth? did he want to keep it as a backup for his 993 or did it already get sold? Will Nine Eleven help you out since they sold you a dud? Cheers Lloyd |

If there's any suggestion I can give somebody wanting to take on a conversion like this is be prepared for $20,000 and if you come up short then that's a bonus. On a more positive note, my cooler kit showed up today. Very impressive- Steve precut the lines and installed the fittings. Thanks Steve. Unfortunately I'm going away for a week so I won't be able to start installing the coolers and lines until next week. Oh, and Lloyd, thanks for the G-paint-I found it on my step Sunday morning as We were away for the Weekend. I owe you one. ![]() ![]() |

There has to be a better way to fix this than to spend $3K replacing an antiquated system!

Are you crazy !!!
I can't believe you put that conversion cost number in print. What if Lisa or one of the other spouses happens to read it. You are putting our whole gig at risk. Play fast and loose with numbers like that and the next thing you know you are doing a kitchen or a bathroom renovation. Please exercise more discretion in the future.

You guys are too funny. Since today is Valentines Day, I would like everyone to take my lead on what to do tonight (yes, you too Greg).
Tonight, I'm going to put my wrenches down, light some candles, pour some wine and spend the evening with my wife entering all my receipts from the last year on an excel sheet. That should set the mood for the rest of the evening ![]() Happy Valentines Day to all you understanding wives!! |

Bathroom rennovation...Hmmm.. That's what I've been doing for the last 2 months
![]() I guess the widebody conversion will have to wait for a while. Great work Tom, hope to see it soon! If I can help with anything, let me know! -Jeff

I've been on the move lately doing non-Porsche related stuff. I'm starting to get back into the swing of things though. The Euro headlight rings are painted and just a little more cleaning of the guts.
![]() ![]() Larry started to have a look at my old 3.0l. Leak down proved my theory that something was amiss in cylinder #6. Broken headstud was the culprit. Strangest thing-looks like the barrel nut vibrated off the end of the broken stud.! ![]() Karting tomorrow night then oil cooler install time on Wednesday. Stay tuned. |

Not so strange, once the stud broke there was no torque on it and it just spun off!

Tom, were they steel or dalivar studs on the 3.0?

I believe the exhaust side is DILAVAR and the intake side is steel. Common practice today is to replace with steel, Raceware , I think is the best.
The biggest concern is if the broken stud caused any unrepairable damage to the head and/or cylinder. |

When I did mine a few years ago (had 3 broken) I replaced all the lower with steel. Was glad that they came out of the case easy!.

I started the oil line/cooler install tonight. This is one of those jobs where you spend allot of time at it with little to show for it after-wards. There's lots of trial fitting and template making.
Connecting the oil lines and thermostat is pretty easy. ![]() ![]() I cut the rest of the headlight bucket out to maximize air flow at the track. ![]() Now it's time to design a cooler bracket/duct. This is the bottom piece. More to come later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

tshebib: I know you must know this, but for anyone else using S/S. lines you must have them clamped so they are not rubbing on any other surfaces. I had a -12 oil line wear all the way through my airplane aluminum top cowl. The S/S jacket is just like a file...
