The timing chain in the RS4 needs an engine removal I think so lots of owners even sell the car before the 80kmiles mark to avoid this.

Assuming the original poster is still looking for real-life cases of a G50 purchase, I bought mine middle of last year.

Using the Porsche Excellence price range for an '88 cabrio (low:$23,200, high:$31,100) I was slightly closer to the high end (28k), but I felt good about it because:

- It was a black Turbo Look, which is exactly what I wanted
- The condition was very good, and I love the car

I spent 8+ years looking for the right car, and encountered a lot of cars for sale that were way out of the range, but didn't sell. So I came to agree with the price ranges listed in Excellence magazine. Plus, if you find the exact car you want, and walk away if its a little over the going price, you might regret it for years. I think many people will continue to treat the 87-89 G50 Carrera as a very desirable car, and the market will reflect that.

I don't know if it's just Audis. I think it is all $$$ newer highly sophisticated cars. I imagine the 991 will be in the same boat.

I also bought an '88 Cabrio the middle of last year. Red w. black top and champagne interior with sport seats. Exterior is perfect (California car) w/73k miles and very well sorted. Interior is good except it could use a freshening. paid $25k. I also was looking for the better part of a decade. Finding good ones is getting harder and harder...and one without a tail seems harder yet. I would have liked a silver coupe, but they seem to be elusive in good condition.

They seem command at least 4-6000$ more in Canada.
Right now: 1987 black on black, rebuilt motor, 26k$
1988 black on white, pretty mint shape, no spoiler, 70k miles, 28k$

I bought a nice original driver condition 88 Targa with 155k on it four years ago and sold it recently for $14k with 170k. It was due for a major tune-up, I told the purchaser, still had the original clutch. I might have been able to get more for it but I don't think I had that much in it with all that I did to it and all the insurance I had paid on it during my ownership.

Note of caution on 996tt. They seem to be having problems with coolant leak issues, serious issues. Anyone interested in one needs to Google that. I was looking for one, but after careful consideration, I decided 996tt is too risky of a purchase. At least the 930 block they use don't have the other problems of the NA versions.

I bought my '89 Carrera 3.2 five years ago. It had 13,313 miles on it at the time. Paid $28,000 for it. Most likely high at the time but dang I got a perfect car. Car came with all tools, compressor, window sticker and is totally original. I'm at 22,500 miles now.

I've briefly considered selling it to move into a newer 911 (997.2) but I now realize that what have would be very hard to replace. So it is a keeper.

The locals don't even know what it is when I'm out and stop at the local gas station.

Got to believe it is worth $30K+ now and will surely be more as it gets older and cars like mine harder to find. Not really concerned what it is worth as that's not why I bought it.

It's been 5-plus years since I bought my '89 S.A. Edition Coupe...at purchase, she had 113K on the car, with a full rebuild done at 97K....handed the guy $22K cash...(especially after seeing the rebuild invoice for damned near $15K-$16K......(WHEWWWWWWWW)

Now (LATER) she's up for a windows out, down to the metal- repaint...will have to remedy the cracked dash,..new windshield/seal ,...and the seats will see a new work-up...plan to drop in fresh carpet, too,....all to make it brand new again!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I'll ever sell her..she's incredibly well-running and in great shape, otherwise. Well-kept,..and closely tended to.....

After spending this cash (in the end), I wouldn't even consider speaking with someone below the $25K mark........(geeze,..this paint job could run upwards of $8K, depending on WHO I use...)

Anywaze,..doesn't matter,..not for sale.....I need my #1 drug....

BEST!

Doyle

I could NEVER get my cash back on this car (no new news there, huh?)

I've listed my 87 black coupe for $15k. holding pretty firm on that. 144k miles with 22k miles on rebuilt motor/trans. g50 shifts smooth as butter. upgraded and cold a/c. highly optioned - 15 codes i think. sport seats but they need work. car runs and drives great. i bought turbo tie rods, ss brake lines and caliper rebuild kits which i will give to new buyer. let me know if interested and i can get you more info

Show a link (or PM me) to the add. That sounds like a good deal. I want send it on to a buddy in Tampa who's been looking for a 3.2.

Your price is fair, but timeline is everthing. If you need to dump it in a month, you might need to go down because the market overall is just so small. However, eventually that car will sell for what you are asking. It is a very desirable model and will always have a steady, if not increasing, demand.

here you go: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/663108-2-carreras-one-sale.html

even though i have a clean florida title, i did a carfax on the grey car and it turns out it was issued a rebuilt title from the early 90's in new york. can't see any major damage. the front up by the battery area looks repaired but the rest of the car is good. i would rather keep it than get beat up on the price. that car is solid, runs strong and tight.

btw - the black car has a good title. no issues there.
