Anyone put 245/50ZR16 on narrow body?

i have a pair of fake fuch 16x9's with 245/50ZR16 tires instead of the 245/45ZR16. nice and fat, they look great. would they fit my 87 coupe?
I haven't mounted the tires yet because I'm not sure if I should even bother

FWIW your '87 is not a narrow body.

245 section width will fit well on your car although at 50 series they will be oversize in diameter.

They will fit just fine unless your car is extremely lowered. Like others have posted they look a bit "balloony" but that's just my opinion. Your speedometer will be off a bit due to the larger diameter as well.

One quick question on this subject. To use the the 245 series tires you have to have the 9" or larger rear rims rIms, right? They will not fit on a 8" rim?

My speedo is 4-5 mph fast so the larger diameter tire will probably make it right. I was wondering about the baloon thing. I guess i'll have to wait and see.

Check w/ the specific tire manufacturer whose tires you are interested in, but most 245/45 x16 that I've seen are spec'd for 7.5 to 9" wheels, the narrower the wheel the better ride, the wider the wheel the better performance can be expected.

Just a FYI
Toyo RA1 are a great choice even for street use

and Bridgestone has come out w/ that size in their excellent RE-11 line

looks like at least some manufacturers have been listening

Yes, all good comments, but let's get back to the original question: Will a 245/50/16 fit on a narrow body (i.e. mid-year or early) 911?

Only if it has Carrera flares

even a 216/60 x15 on a 7ET23.3 will hit a couple of inches above the lips w/o SC/Carrera flares.

ST(strict n/b no flare) used 7ET49 w/ 6.5 to 16mm spacers for up to a 225/50 x15 tire

If you're referring to narrow-bodied 911s (not Carrera or Turbo) up to '76, no. Go to Early911SRegistry.org for more relevant responses.

i guess I created some confusion. I know 74-77 are known as the narrow bodies.
My car is an 87. That era produced turbo/turbo look and standard flared cars. My thinking is wide or narrow. So what I meant to say is that my 87, being regular fendered (hence narrow) body, would it accommodate the fatter tires?
I take it from the responses that the answer is yes it will. I can't wait to put them on.

Any non-turbo flared, air cooled 911 is a "narrow body" - hard to believe anyone would see this differently!

Again, no. A non-turbo SC or Carrera body (77>) has larger flares than an earlier (65-76) 911. Must distinguish between the two more accurately for appropriate tire/wheel fitment.

Post some pics once you get the tires mounted on the car so we can see how they look.

This is my Narrow Body 1974 with 225/50/16. I guess I could call this car a Narrower Body?

I don't think 245/50/16's would fit on these particular Carrera Fuchs but I've heard that that size will fit on 951 16x8 Fuchs on a "Narrower Body Mid Year"

I think you could also say a 996 (non C4s) has a narrow body. It was my impression that "Narrow Body 911" commonly refers to 74-77 non-Carrera,Base or S. Maybe you should start a poll and see what people how people see it.
