I couldn't wait to come home to my RHD. In fact I have an outstanding invitation for my Virginian friend to come down under just to see how much better a RHD pedal layout is!

Yeah it's great fun ATM, cheers guys.

Re: the pedal box - I've only driven two 911s; this car and another one that had been converted to RHD. I much prefer this one because it seems more comfortable and you have the perfectly placed solid footrest (back of the wheel well) which is so useful when you're hooking along through corners. But I can't really heel & toe with my 911 - doubt it's any easier with a RHD model, I guess I just haven't developed the technique you use for floor-pivotting pedalbox...

I'm out East in Box Hill North.

Import costs etc

Can I ask what the logistics of the shipping entailed and what those individual costs ran ?
Did you look at Roll On Roll Off Vs Containerised ?

Nice car and no 2.7,you did your homework and it payed off well done.
Had a mate imported a 2.7 coupe to my country and the motor was rebuilt with paperwork, totally mint car,6 months down the line the motor cacked in a big way and he hated it due to repairs on the motor, funny thing is he payed SC money for the car as it turned out.
Enjoy.

Well you can do all the homework you want and it's still possible to buy something that ends up blowing up. Not good, but some of it is always going to be luck.

I didn't look into roll-on roll-off, it was Container or nothing as far as I was concerned.

Chuck me a PM if you want to talk about costs etc more than I've posted in this thread.

I don't do a whole lot of work on this car and have a few problems with it. Broke down the other day when the fuel pump wouldn't switch on. I trailered it to my factory and have been doing some other bits of work on it.

The fuse box 'fuel pump fuse' and 'fuel pump relay' bays are empty. The fuel pump is infront of the rear left wheel rather than near the steering rack. Where would the relay normally be located in this situation? I put a meter across the terminals with the ignition on and there was no voltage so I'm guessing the root of it is electrical. Will connect a car battery to the terminals when I get a chance and see if it starts up haha.

Anyway, a few months ago the alternator voltage reg buggered up, bought one online and cleaned up the bits I pulled apart a little.

I also got off my butt and fixed the number plate. I had it dodgily mounted on the US plate bracket and it was all pretty bad, I drilled out the spot welds and cut & shut bits on the bracket to make it suit the Australian bolt pattern. Came up looking factory with some M5 stainless bolts.

It always really bugged me that the Monty M21 muffler tailpipe didn't sit right in the valence panel, and once again I actually did something about it.

Much better!

Now I better focus on making it run and then give the poor thing a good clean hahahaha

I wired up the fuel pump properly and put an aftermarket relay on it, in addition to cleaning up the factory connections, all hidden away fairly neatly too. The car starts and runs properly now although I think it could do with a tune-up re: the K-Jet mixture setting/s.

Also got all new tyres last week, and a great wheel alignment. Had to adjust the ride height up a little and make some more guard clearance under the front driver's side to fit the larger profile tyres in.
205/55/R16 (Front) Toyo Proxes of some description
245/45/R16 (Rear) Toyo Proxes T1R

Also fitted the flat engine cover which I think looks really slick. Car is running like a dream ATM, but I'd like to do some more aesthetic jobs.

Getting some looks?

How is driving a LH car in a RH world? Do you get some stares from other motorists? Americans have many adventures driving in RH countries (England & down under). My old Aussie cube mate adjusted to driving in SoCal on the LH. Are you having some "fun" with the LHD. IMHO Go Star Wars and feel the force (LHD 915 shifting)kind of like Yoda advising Luke in the swamp. . If you are a RH person it may be easier. I had a US SC motor in my 73 that was full of torque like yours and it was a lot of fun. You did you research and did well in your purchase. Keep up the research. Cheers!!

I use a scaled down version for my parking card , it always get a few stares!

It's nice chatting to other drivers at the lights, many advantages of LHD!

Once again, very long time between posts!

The operation of the car has been pretty faultless. I wasn't really driving it an awful lot, partially because I have four cars, but an element was that the fuel economy was really bad, like roughly 14MPG in yank language.

I was invited from some friends to experiment in a free test with an engine-cleaning device. Basically the test involved dyno testing the car on some power runs, letting it idle for half an hour with a device feeding hydrogen through the air intake and then carrying out the dyno test. This is apparently one way to clean a motor with a lot of carbon build up, on my car it didn't seem to make a difference but a free opportunity to put it on the dyno was good for me anyway.

I booked myself in for a track day at the Phillip Island GP Track with the Porsche Club of Victoria who I am a member of. Before the track day in addition to normal preparation, a friend and I used an 'Innovate' wide-band oxygen sensor on the Porsche and had a crack at tuning it. The mixture was quite fat even at cruise, and when I got on full noise it went down around 11:1! We haven't got the tune perfect, and I'd have to say the all-out power doesn't seem to be any better, but mid-range transitional throttle response is improved and the fuel economy is night and day. I just want to drive the car everywhere now!

Anyway, some pics of the track day. The tyres on the car are great street tyres but quickly reached their limit on the track, and it was a stinker at about 40°C (104°F). For the local guys, I started off the day with a club instructor (very helpful, as I've never been to that track and aren't awfully experienced) doing 2min mid 30's, and finished off with a 2:11 flat. The car got to 186km/h on the front straight.

The brakes and tyres really didn't come with the racing conditions awfully well, but I had a fantastic day and nothing was damaged. Definitely want to do some more of this before I sell the car.

I felt like it'd provided a pretty good service and deserved a birthday, so I finally bought a narrow front spoiler and sold the turbo one I didn't need, pulled the front valence off which had always been in TERRIBLE shape.

Ground out all of the old cracked bog, welded up the spotlight holes, welded up the number plate holes for nutserts, welded up the cracks and welded on big wide washers to secure the front spoiler properly:

Generous skim of bog:

High Fill & Guide Coat:

Love that side profile with the front spoiler!

Much better!
