Unpacking/inventorying things, I am consumed with the sweet smell of the leather from Tony at Heritage. This interior is gonna' "pop" for sure!

Thumbs up

Was working through some spreadsheets tonight and thought I'd throw some snips of the current spreadsheet that relates to the new parts to be loaded once she's painted. Trust me,..there are several expense items that are NOT on this current spreadsheet. This particular one is simply some of the parts that will be replaced during the restoration....clocking in at ~$6.5K-
............................
Had to snip these in pieces so,...apologies are in order....posted in the subsequent post......
----------------------
Interior costs are another matter entirely. THAT inventory includes essentially EVERYTHING inside the car!!! (including materials for all pillar recovers, headliner, etc....those items being things that will be installed locally). AGAIN, every single piece inside will be (or already has been) redone. I went ahead and made the call to go full leather (yes,..including the dash)THAT costs certainly exceeds the posted spreadsheet parts totals,..guaranteed.. When done, I'll have WAY too much into the interior. Of course, I asked Tony to ship every single piece that he removed from the car BACK to me (even the old seat covers) so I incurred the additional shipping expenses associated with such quirkiness that besets me. New carpet sets throughout,..blah-blah-blah.....The interior expense (when all is said and done) should touch ~ $8K
..............................................
I've a few additional mop up items to address, such as steering wheel recover and shift knob recover. I have the materials for this from Heritage. It's quite funny to me that Tony wouldn't even consider tackling these two pieces,..stating that such work to recover the shift knob and steering wheel is something he's learned to stay away from and suggested that those specialists out there (who concentrate on steering wheels, shift knobs, etc.) be engaged to execute those areas of restoration,....he simply wouldn't touch those and I'm quite sure he has his reasons-which he shared with me. SO,..Dallas Custom will get that project resto piece very soon. I've heard that they are one of the best out there. Cost for that is TBD.

Then, of course, the labor to install all of this isn't listed. If I had the time, I'd love to do it myself but no such luxury with my schedule. That's gonna' be a few thousand $ (easily).

Lastly,...no final number on the paint job (not included) here. Yes,...we're spraying Glasurit-Silver Metallic. John Holt states that she's been primed more than once and is hard as nails,...just begging for paint! John told me from the get-go that he wouldn't even consider beginning the painting until EVERYTHING ELSE was completed and all of it was "in his hands" (delivered to his shop). Says that ALL of the painting should be done at once, and that there would be NO compromise. He's the best, so I dare not question nor "push" this Pro Painter and his team at Hot Wheels in Marietta, Georgia.

The only LAST thing I'm considering is to have the FUCHS redone. Of course, they will be paint-matched to the car color (25th Anniversary Edition) however 2 of the wheels have some light curb rash. He states that he knows someone who can get that done. Cost? No idea just yet.

WOW,...not for the "financially faint of heart", for sure. Pay to play........--

When I get that dang 50th Anniversary ride, this '89 25th Anniversary ride will look just as new parked side-by-side!!!

Best to all,

Doyle

Thanks, Mike. I think I've been on the track throughout but had to ride in someone else's "engine".

Will certainly keep the updates coming.

Funny,..a good friend of mine (and fellow recording engineer) was shaking his head today as he tallied up the monies required to see this project to it's end. He's a fellow Porsche owner (albeit only a few years in to the discovery),..very smart gent who is just as out-spoken as I am at times,..although he carries a much lower odometer reading on his life's odometer clock than myself. He declares that I'll have more money into this car than it's worth,..so why do it when the same monies could get you something newer. Well,..that told me all I needed to know about his shortcomings in several areas. He's not driven the older torsion bar cars and hasn't experienced the sweet driving feedback these pups bring to the driving experience. I always tell him that it's not how fast you go, but (moreso) "how you go fast". Aside from the obvious arguments, I told him that I was getting this car back to it's original glory as I plan to pass this car down to my Grandson, Aiden. Such a plan carries no price barriers and is something I consider "priceless" as to "value". Bottom line (I mentioned) is that I'll spend my huge piles of cash any damned way I see fit and grin like hellll all the way! If I can ever get him on the track, he will truly experience these cars (his included) SO much more. Since Aiden is only 3 years of age, I'll have plenty of time to park this 25th Anniversary RESTO right along side the 50th Anniversary. I'd call that a "special" moment......indeed. Then I suggested he go buy a beemer, as that would suite him a bit better.......

Looking forward to getting her back on the road. I just can't believe it's taken this long.

Had I known,...........blah-blah-blah........

Stay tuned!

BEST!

Doyle

Doyle;

I feel your anxiety. My SC was dropped off 11/15 for a bare metal repaint with all new rubber and headliner. Expectation was around May,1. Due to the snowy winter and spring hailstorm, the date is now mid October. ( No time for filler jobs)
Now in epoxy primer and body work is being completed. I even bought a buddy's Boxter to drive this season as I could not fathom a season without a toy.
We can both take solace in the fact that when finished, we will be very pleased with the results. ( Until the 1st rock chip) Better to wait than cut corners.
Sometimes things take longer than anticipated and end up costing more.

Hey, Doyle - I was at John's the other day. Just wanted you to know that I rubbed my hands all over yer car! I know she hasn't been felt up in a while. (I kid, I kid)

Sounds like you're getting close! It was looking good. That silver glasurit looks great.

Rattlsnak: you fucher! i knew something such as this was coming my way!!! Just be sure to make use of any annotations to lend a German "touch" (signature personality). You da' man, Snake!

@Tirwin: Thanks for the info! I'll share my girl with you any day, as she loves attentive, passionate P-peeps who deliver the goods! That is, you're welcome to come "stroke" her anytime you wish! Yes Sir,...that Glasurit spray looked quite good (as best I could tell). John's to apply a few coats of clear (DEAL!) and I'm quite certain she will wetsand/buff to a level appreciated by the P-gods. John's the best,..and the proof will show in the pudding.....I'm convinced. The reassembly will be tedious. I await John's call (request) to deliver the MANY items that reside throughout my house...GEEZE,..a COMPLETE Restoration involves a BOATLOAD of stuff....I've got the complete interior items (everything), as well as all Porsche replacement parts for the exterior parts (rubber seals, spoiler, etc,..nothing ignored there). The spreadsheet has been (long-ago) posted over on Pelican.

John's to use someone (highly endorsed-Porsche peeps) to handle the headliner, Pillars, and Gauge backing. I trust John, implicitly,..and that makes for a good ride going forward. I expect a call from him soon. You won't find me "shipping" ANY of these parts/pieces/interior via ANY carrier to John's location ~ 100 miles away. No frikin' way. TOO much time and money invested to even take a chance with a shipper. Assured, EVERYTHING WILL BE HAND-DELIVERED !!!! To close, Tirwin,.....thanks for your interests and support over these past +20 months. Dig your posts and am grateful for what you provide me, Sir.

@ tassie targa 76: thanks for your reply! My very best to you and yours' "down under"....been there, although spending time only on the Perth side. Still have YET to go to Sydney,...one day! Loved that Country and it's people(s). Could EASILY live there. You are lucky. Have sent a fair share of parts to friends in Australia. They send me back these cool-arse cookie (things). Dig it.

YES, BRAD!!! INDEED!

For those who wouldn't know, BRAD is a dear friend of mine who lives nearby. We've done some work together on his BEAST,..and was my first introduction to the G+4 platform and riding shotgun to change fuel map setting (boatloads of cells, indeed). What a beast BRAD!!!!

And, for the record, Brad and I will be dropping MY engine at some point after she returns home. Guess we'll need to make the engine match the new surroundings. THAT'S Brad,....a guy who ensures all bolts face the same direction on his engine.

,..(mmmm),..can't wait.
