I installed my repaired oil temperature/pressure gauge today! What a roller coaster of emotions: there were two diodes between the temperature sender and the gauge when I pulled it and determined the coil needed to be replaced, so I thought I'd leave them in place. Wired with fuses between power for temperature and pressure, tested, no smoke or failures, removed fuses and connected final wires. THEN, smoke from behind the dashboard!!! AAAHHH!!! Horror!

But when I went to look for the source of the smoke, there were no singed wires to be found. Not even any signs of burning. So, I tested the gauge again, reinstalled everything WITHOUT the diodes (which aren't shown on any wiring diagram I've ever seen), started the car, and it worked! No smoke, and I'm getting both pressure AND temperature readings that make sense. And every electrical feature I have tried works.

Success? Close e-****ing-nough.

Also replaced fuel level sender and driver's side door speaker grill. Woo!

I kept reading that I needed a spare DME Relay in my recently acquired 88 Carrera. Instead of a true spare, I ordered a Focus 9 911 Solid-State Relay (Pump-Prime). Put it in last night, and wrapped up my old (known good) relay as a spare in the tool bag. Easy to do, didn't need to remove the drivers seat, took 20 minutes. The prime feature puts a big smile on my face for no obvious reason, but it is great - love hearing that pump pressurize the system. Hope everyone is well. Keep posting these project ideas!

Adjusted the brake light switch on my 1971 911T Targa today. Before the brake lights would only come on if I was standing on the pedal. Now they work as they should!

Racecar repairs. Noticed some play in the steering at the last track day. Determined the source was the steering coupler. From the factory this part is a rubber disk but ours had been changed to a custom solid aluminum part. This is done to improve steering feel and because the rubber deteriorates over time. The holes in our aluminum one have ovalized a bit but that little bit of play was magnified by the time it made it up to the steering wheel. It's probably been on the car for 20 years so I can't complain. Note that the factory coupler uses locking plates to prevent the bolts from backing out, well worth the $12 to get those. I had a spare rack that was smoother so I'm going to swap it and get a new coupler. Looks like the turbo tie rods were installed with a pipe wrench or channel locks. This thin 32mm wrench is the right tool for the job.

I'm back-dating a 1983 SC coupe. I bought a new replacement windshield and managed to remove the rear view mirror button and the glue. (I'm installing an old style ceiling mount rear view mirror.) Now I find there is a round black sticker on the glass under where the button and glue were that was put there as a base for the glue presumably. Any ideas on how I get THAT off? I've tried goof-off, acetone, lacquer thinner. Nothing touches it. I can't even get a razor blade under the edge. Help, please.

You may want to start a stand-alone thread for more visibility.

You tried everything I could think of other than carefully heating and using a razor blade.

Did a bunch of things on the 88 during this stay at home period (eventhough I didn't stay at home). Installed a new horn button after checking everything to see why I had no horn. I had no idea Momo horn buttons go bad! Repaired my hi beam switch, window felt, degreased the engine, touched up a lot of paint on the inside of the trunk (car was red, now black), new battery, refinished the wheels... Today, I wondered if the ac worked. Popped the cap and filled with R134 and she's blowing cold! Just in time for summer!

Only problem with more space is you fill it with more projects and more junk!

Layed in the driveway in the nice sunshine cleaning my wheels for 4 hours. Got three of them done. Also figured out (after 14 years of ownership) that all the rubber on the car isnt oxidized its painted! So i started picking it off. Im not sure how far Im going to take it but its looking much better

Took the kiddos on a city cruise, taught them about history, landmarks, and stopped by one of my fav buildings to get these awesome shots. No filters and a phone cam. Just good light.

What did you do to spend an hour cleaning a wheel ?

That's so classic about the painted rubber. Shocked it did not peel in 14 years.
