Replaced all 12 plugs. Then pulled all the idle jets out of the weber's. Found two with a little bit of something restricting the jet a little. I see two cylinders running a little rich so I'll lean them down 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Webers's like to run a little rich at idle to low rpm. Started it up and still idles smooth as my kitten's belly.

Installed a volt meter and a USB port on a blank page where my radio used to be. VDO Gaige matches the dash, and the ports are close enough to be able to power my phone in a dash mount without having a cable interfering with the shifter. I didn’t like the look of the mounts in the ashtray, or under it — I wanted to keep the dash a little cleaner. Eventually I will get the main gauges overhauled and add a volt meter into one of them...

Too many garage projects to list, but nothing real exciting to document like electrical troubleshooting, porting an intake, replacing fuel evaporator lines, etc. Finally got out of the garage and went for a drive on the back roads with some friends from work I haven't seen in 2+ months.

BIT of more than I could chew...... stoopid idea
So I guess this is one of those times that your luck just runs out and you bite of more than you can chew. I'm super disappointed.
During the pandemic I've had a chance to due a WHOLE bunch of little projects on my car and they all came out pretty well. I guess I got a little cocky and I shouldn't have as I am a newbie DIY'er at best and that's being generous. Sooooo I had seen SEVERAL guys re-do their FRUNKS and man they turned out great.... I thought I could do it too... IN MY MIND my project was going to come out awesome...... It did NOT..... it was really challenging for me to make the patterns, to design something out actually worked, and to do the uphostery (man o man was that hard and do I suck at it!) the sides were the hardest. I even had hard time attaching the foam to the Vinyl, it is just a disaster. BUT at least I tried. Soooo just as we post pictures of our successes and what we are proud of....... I guess I can post a few shots of the disasters....... Here is mine..... I've already flamed myself, if you HAVE to blast me........ go ahead I can see too. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Soooooo I loved the look of the Fuch mounted on the collapsible tire.... BUT there was no real way of securing it down well. I looked everywhere for a solution but I wasn't really able to find one. Lots of guys secured the spare down with leather straps, with the factory bolt down, with straps, with all kinds of other things to secure the rim down..... I didnt see anything I liked at all.
Sooooo I made one that had form and function. I happened to have a an extra beat up CAP laying around soo I got some sandpaper and went from 250 to 3000 grit and a bit of polish. Then I welded the factory bolt onto the back of it. THEN..... SCREWED IT INTO PLACE! simple and works perfectly..... ![]()

** Awesome idea with the badged Fuchs tiedown...
Proud to report I changed all sparks, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I know it's a common job but for a true noob I'm feeling quite accomplished! This is part of a larger process to get the engine running for the first time in decades.. I confirmed I am in fact getting spark now (as I wasn't before these replacements) but still seemingly no fuel to the engine. Not getting much of a whine from the CDI module in the ON position, thinking sending that in for a refurb may be the next roadblock to tackle.. |

Opened up the AFM to perform cleaning/sanding of contact areas and re-track for fresh path.
To my surprise, it was well worth the time!!! Very smooth and very nice enhancement. |

Got the parts I needed and reinstalled the steering rack in the race car. The old worn out custom aluminum coupling was replaced with a new one from Rebel Racing, along with factory bolt locking plates. I only replaced the rack because I had a nice one on the shelf that was a lot smoother. When I went to reassemble it I noticed the mounting bolts were too long. Turns out the original rack had been redrilled and fitted with helicoils to fix the threads at some point in its life, that's why it had the long bolts. All better now, just need to realign the front.

Did some work on the street car too. A while back I had to removed the fog lights. I prefer the look without fog lights and my LED headlights are bright enough that I don't feel like I need them. When I added an Elephant Racing fan to the front Carrera oil cooler I reused the fog light wiring and switch. The wiring was already in the right location and I thought it was a lot cleaner than adding a hodgepodge of non factory wires. The only issue was I could only turn the fan on when headlights were on. So I relocated the fog light relay wire to an unused air conditioning fuse. While I was at it I modified the fog light switch with an old fan switch cap. Now I can run my fan whenever I want and the switch looks correct on the dash.

Minor fine tuning of build. Fabbed a small bracket and added another spring to the throttle return. The existing pusher spring is a little too light for me. It is raining so didn't test drive to confirm it is OK. Certainly stiffened the throttle.

Installed a JWest shift rod coupler on my '88 today. Took about 3 hours - not a bad job. Really makes shifting much crisper and more precise with a greatly improved feel. And no rattles or buzzing in the shifter in any gear, at any rpm. I recommend it for all '87 - '89 911's.

awesome, all of them
I kinda want to do this with just my OEM carpet. I liked the lights, were they worth a ****? We just had a bunch of stuff done on the car, had Air80 ceramic window film put on and then had the car polished and detailed for Luft7. All dressed up with nowhere to go so we decided to head out to Colorado for some Gruppe Therapy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ended up covering exactly 3,187 miles in total. I corded my front tires so had to get some all-seasons to drive home. By the time we got home my rears were into the secondary rubbber.

Installed the re upholstered (by me) seats on the car, far from perfect but an upgrade from before. First time sewing seat covers or anything that isn't flat for that matter.
