Did my first valve adjustment, what a pain the process is. However, it was still way easier using the Kirk tool. While there, I installed new oil filter and oil, rotor and distributor cap. Spark plugs were still good. Engine had been running rich for a while, so I checked exhaust and adjusted the fuel mixture using my Innovate tool - for me, worth the money. Day and a half worth of work.

![]() 😃/😢 Day. Pulled drivetrain out of our wrecked 993 today. Many parts will live on in our new Guards Red '95. Back in late 2014 my poor wife hydroplaned in her Gpx White daily driver "Harold". 231k miles of smiles out of him! Porsche safety engineers did their job and she walked away fine! We moved on to Mushu, she chose the Martini livery.

I got tired of trying to find a radio knob for my '65 Blaupunkt radio, so I decided to design one to get one printed.

After BAT auction results on '89 911, and high heat idexes, am thinking upgrading AC to 1971 Celica standards would be wise!

Have spent the last couple of weeks trying to figure out what cooked my starter. The starter was engaging when the ignition switch was in the run position. Replaced the ignition switch as it was getting loose and wonky, so I figured this was the most likely culprit. Big pain in the arse to replace and no love, still engaging from the run position. Started looking for places the yellow wire from the ignition switch (terminal 50) and the red/black wire (terminal 15) could be shorting to each other.
After much pain and angst, and some help from my buddy Larry, we found it inside the connector that fits to the back of the ignition switch. Check out the pictures below, it took 38 years, but the back of terminal 50 had rubbed through the insulation of the red/black wire. I feel lucky to have found it. ![]() ![]()

I've been picking away with assembling the car since i got it back from paint. Yesterday i decided to start it up as it hadn't run in about 4 months and i just wanted to hear it purr. So, installed the battery, turned the key and it cranked but wouldn't fire!! Last thing i wanted to do was spend time chasing a new problem when i have a mountain of work already with body and interior assembly. Luckily, i notice something when i tried to crank it, a clicking behind the centre of the dash. Tried several times and then the light bulb in my head went off - alarm problem! The original alarm horn was eliminated when i rebuilt the front end last winter but the rest was still in place i expected. I did some research last night to refresh my mind on this issue and found the thread about installing 2 jumpers. I guess the body shop guys messed up the wiring when they pulled the doors off and put them back one. This eventing I tore the ventilation system out and found the module (well hidden!!). A quick attempt to start the car confirmed this was indeed the source of the clicking. Ii made two jumpers and installed them and sure enough it came alive!! What a sweet sound the air cooled engine is when you overcome a problem like this. Now I'm drinking beer and feeling pretty good. I also installed the fuel filler neck, rubber boot/grommet, keeper wire ring (PITA), and associated items. All in all a great night!

Do you think that is the popular cause for ignition switches going bad? Seems like a little electrical tape reinforcement in that screw area would go a long way. This is worth posting on the tech forum.
Can you open the ignition switch back without removing too much stuff?
