Another Dash Crack - Help
So, I have the typical cracks in my 1985 dash and I need to know what to do to fix the issue. I'm leaning against just covering the dash with another material. I'd rather fix it the right way now rather than putting a band aid on it and eventually doing it the right way later anyway.
![]() There aren't OEM replacement Dash's for my 1985 911 for sale here. I think I've seen people use the OEM dash from a 964. So, can I just purchase this one and install it? Will it fit without much modification? How do I remove the dash? Does anyone have a step by step to remove the dash? I know i need to remove the windshield but how do I remove the dash itself? Thanks for all of your help. Last edited by testa-rossa; 04-10-2013 at 10:11 PM.. |

Try a search here on having your dash recovered, looks fantastic at a fraction of the cost of new.

Search just dashes, $1200 or do it yourself as I did, search "finally back in the game" page 7 or so.

Wow those are some huge cracks!!!
Still, I'd recover it - I did mine with alcantara and really like the result - IMHO this is the best material for dashes; it's stretchy and non-glare. On my '89 the dash comes out without too much fanfare, on your... well, you don't say but your speedo looks different... I'm not sure its' so easy to remove. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 349k miles |

George from AIR can recover that dash perfectly, and for a LOT less than Just Dashes. On top of that he is a Porsche driver, Porsche fan, and a big contributor to these forums, so we should support him! His handle is Geshagi and there are a number of threads on his work in dash restoration. You should see the '67 dash that was handed to him cracked in half! - Matt

What year? It matters. Doesn't look like a long hood, but if so, windshield comes out first...

I think the glass has to come out (although not sure-I know my 89's dash comes out without windshield removal, but earlier models are a bit different...),..surely look for those that can recover this....the suggested ones can take care of your needs, for sure.
BEST! Doyle

remove windshield, remove steering wheel, remove gauges, open trunk, remove cover for fresh air blower area, remove AC vent in the middle of the dash. Get a good light and look inside, underneath and all around. There are nuts on 5 studs along the face, 4 in the ac duct area and 1 by the fuel gauge. There are 7 plastic push in connectors on the top to hold it in place.

The plastic connectors that hold the dash in will probably need to be replaced but are available.

I decided to go ahead and send my dash to AIR. They told me 3 to 4 weeks to get it back.
