Hopefully no one will be miffed for reviving this thread... Ron, first of all, thanks for the experience. There's nothing like a road trip adventure. That tent of yours is almost a classic by itself. I don't think you can even buy one of those "pointy-roofed" designs any more LOL. All they have now are dome tents.
I have a question as far as car prep. What's the reasoning behind taking off the wheel caps? From reading I gleamed something about not getting busted... does it enhance radar signature, or am I just way off on that one? To a layperson it may make the wheels look "uglier" and less desirable... Thanks, Dave.

That tent has been around since Aspen got its first red signal light. That area started it all. It was a fantasy come true yrs ago. I spent a few summers in that tent being Rock Mt high. thanks for getting me thinking about its history. The wheel cap removal was part of the whole low profile package.. It wasn't washed till my brother said it embarassed him at his home in Marina Del Rey.. LOL. I removed beautiful expensive sheep skins and rode in a pos old sheepskin seat cover. You had to know 911s to see what I was riding on.. So anyway the car didn't turn heads anywhere.. so it looked like there is not much to steal inside or even steal a pos looking car.. even the PD didn't look at it on the Hy. The front license plate was removed as soon as I was out of home NY. The front always had a bra on.. even laser had to take repeated hits on me because the ft plate is target #1.. and he couldn't tell there was no plate with the bra, I think., but I did leave the bracket and clear plastic plate protector on to fake him out wasting time, I think.. they would take continual laser shots till I passed him.. but it's only part of a no ticket, no busted game.. although in some parts of Wyoming I figured it's better if this NY tourist left town quickly. and thanks for the attention.

I totally understand the "keepin' it in dirty camouflage" thing. I used to not wash my BBS wheels for 6 months at a time so people didn't try and steal them. It's gonna be harder to make that vpr green disappear under grime, but that will be my strategy too.
As for the bra, you've just given me an idea. To mess with 'the man' even further, I'm going to put just a black license plate FRAME on the front. Probably under the bra just so it looks like something is there. I loved the part where you played 'tag' with the trailerless semi. The guy must have really known the road well. Reminded me of some 3-state bike trips I used to take. Somewhere in VT on Rte. 100 there was a red Karman Ghia that definitely knew the roads. It's not often that such a car can hold up three sportbikes, but on a narrow winding road, with virtually no "straights" he was keeping us at bay. It was too dangerous to squirt by due to the tight and very blind corners. Too big of a risk of oncoming traffic, yet on the corners he was really carrying his speed slightly past what we were comfortable with without knowing whether the turn would tighten or whether there would be big gap in the pavement. We both knew the game and it was a great rhythm to ride in. Thanks for reminding me of that too.

Perfect early spring on a high desert area surrounded by mts and hills. This is my opnion of the most alive pristine desert areas in the whole US. The sun was bright that day and you need a 4x4 for a good dose.

thank you for sharing ronnin! it is a pure pleasure to read about your adventures. reminds me of my big trip last year
![]() i cant wait to do it again this july and august.. 2 weeks to the west coast and back and all parts in between. nothing like hitting the open road Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me, The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose. Henceforth I ask not good-fortune -I myself am good fortune; Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing Strong and content, I travel the open road. -Walt Whitman

NY Times' Book Review
Jack Kerouac's " On the Road " was the Huckleberry Finn of the mid-twentieth century. Kerouac substituted the road for the river, the fast car for the slow raft, the hipster in search of freedom for the black slave in search of freedom....

kerouac and ginsburg are my favority authors (i had to make a pilgamage to city lights in SF and to big sure last year.. will do again this year). it was kerouac and history books reading about the great migrations, the wagon trains, the 49'ers the native americans.. the desire to see and experience the land we live in that made me want to hit the road..
'So in America when the sun goes down and i sit on the old broken-down river pier watching the long long skies over New Jersey and sense all that raw land that rolls in one unbelieveable huge bulge over the West Coast, and all that road going, all the people dreaming in the immensity of it, and in Iowa i know by now the children must be crying in the land where they let the children cry, and tonight the stars'll be out, and dont you know that God is Pooh Bear? The evening star must be drooping and shedding her sparkler dims on the earth, darkens all the rivers, cups the peaks and folds the final shore in, and nobody, NOBODY knows whats going to happen to anybody besides the forlorn rags of growing old, I think of Dean Moriarty, I even think of Old Dean Moriarty, the father we never found, I think of Dean Mor-ri-ar-ty.' -On the Road
