Best tickle charger for odyssey 925
So, I am taking the plunge on a new battery for the 993. I wanted something lighter and went with the 925 Odyssey. What is everyone using to keep this topped off for longer periods of rest?
Odyssey sells their brand charger, but it is not a sole purpose maintainer, rather a combo charger which has only clamps - no lead that can be hard-wired to the battery for easy trickle charge connect / disconnect. Thanks! G Last edited by aigel; 03-10-2014 at 11:18 PM.. |

LOL!
I have the Odyssey 925 and I use this Battery Tender Jr. I had a spare for one of my motorcycles, and started using it before the winter. It works great and kept the battery topped off even when it was in the 20s F in my garage.

I guess it is tickle charger?
So, that's what I find. Some people say the Battery Tender Jr. is a good match for the oddyssey, others say that the world is going to come undone unless you use a higher voltage charger that's specially made for the mat battery. I'd like to hear a few more opinions before I am charging away ... G |

Odyssey batteries - ACI Chargers
Why not one of these? They can be permanently installed. I use a OMAX-25A-1B. Odyssey Ultimizer Battery Chargers

This would definitely the best option. Of course I could change out the charging cable with a fixed lead one as well. Maybe I should just go that route. Then there is no question if I used the right charger ... I really want this battery setup to last. The 993 is very finicky for getting the emissions codes to set. It is not a good idea to cut power to the ECU unless you are at least 12 months from smog, otherwise the codes may never set and you find yourself at the referee station instead of the smog place down the block ... not the end of the world, but a hassle. I think you'll get more anecdotal than objective opinions, especially on a short thread, thus far.
Try this list to whittle down the top 5 candidates based on your personal "best" criteria: https://www.google.com/search?q=recommended+battery+trickle+charger&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficial&client=firefox-a&channel=sb#channel=sb&q=review+recommended+battery+trickle+charger&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficialSherwood |

021-0123 Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger ..... and it comes with two sets of connection harnesses to the battery; clip on (color-coded + and –) and eyelet terminals for permanent installation to your electrical system. The very best??? Hmm. Dunno. Sherwood |

Final setup:
Rennline mount Odyssey 925T Battery Tender Jr. - low power consuming unit - CA approved Pigtail fixed installation - came with the Battery Tender (like that these came with a fuse on the short end of the positive cable) My reasoning behind buying the battery tender was low power consumption and no moving parts. Reading up on the Odyssey chargers I found reference of a fan that is constantly on. I also could not find information on what cables the Odyssey comes with. At some point you just have to not send your money to a company that can't write up a list of items that are included with the product. The battery tender may be a little small, but it isn't that I don't drive the car at all. It just has happened that I get in it and it has been 2+ weeks, especially if there is a longer rain spell in winter. Thanks, G ![]()

One note on the Rennline mount top strap. It runs pretty close to the battery terminals. You can see that I made an insulator to make sure in an accident things don't short out against the mount. I think the mount is poorly designed in this respect. I should have sent it back and made my own. If I only had the tools and time!
