Dansk SSI Question

I have a 1977 911S with stock exchangers and exhaust. I want to swap in some Dansk SSI exchangers and a new exhaust. Based on my research, I need the thick flange exchangers. I won't be ordering from the site in the following link, but I just wanted to make sure this is the right Dansk part number. Can anyone confirm? I just want to make sure I get the right exchangers. Thanks. Jim

Dansk - 91.917SSI 1623105210 SSI Heat Exchanger set

My source seems to think I need these exchangers, but they appear to be thin flange: https://www.tech9.ms/classic-parts/exhaust/dansk--91911ssi-1623104910-ssi-heat-exchanger-set-stainless-steel

If you have the original engine in your car, it would be a 2.7 liter, and I believe it would take the narrow flanged exchangers.

Yeah, the catalog dictates this but I had my car at John Walker's shop today and we both inspected the car. It has the thick flange exchangers. I have read a couple other threads where other '77 2.7 owners stated it requires the thick flange exchangers. It sounds counter intuitive, but that is the case. According to Walker, I need the thick flange exchangers without the extended tube at the top of the flange that meets the head. Anyone know what the part number is?

My 77 takes thin flange HE's (it's backdated to 73 style HE's) but from what I've read thick flanges will work if your exhaust head studs are replaced with longer ones. sounds like your studs are the long version. On the other hand, thin flange will work on the long studs though you may want or need to stack washers or make spacers so you don't have to screw the nut so far down. curiously my car came with one SSI and though it was thin flange my particular exhaust studs barely reached through it, one of the nuts was only half on, SSI's have a slightly thicker flange than OE, so I found a stock one to replace it. All SSI's appear to be identical internally.

From researching a while back on SSI's for my 83SC...I think the thick flange with extension tube in to head is the 80-83SC version and the thick flange without the extension in the head is the 84-89 Carrera version.. Seeing as how the "new Dansk SSI's" don't come with the O2 sensor bungs installed, which I don't think you need on your 77, sounds like the 84-89 version is what you need... But I would think John Walker would be able to verify this for you if you asked him.

Either way good luck...I keep teetering of the fence about getting some SSI's for my 83.. But just got too many other projects before even seriously diving in to this one.

OK time to man up... I just did some more searching for old SSI for sale posts for the 84-89 3.2 versions and they all seem to have the extension that go in to the head. I could have swore the 84-89 didn't have them though. If they both have them then I wonder what the difference is to need different part numbers for the 80-83 SC and the 84-89 Carrera? Also I remember when Dansk first started producing them after the buyout of SSi they stated they didn't come with the O2 bung and if needed to have a muffler shop weld one in. Now the pics show them already installed.
Sorry for the "Brain Williams" moment..But I would still listen to what John Walker had to say.

I think you are right, they all come with O2 bungs now, but I will just plug it up. Based on the catalog sorter on Pelican for my year and model, I need the non-MFI thick flange without the extension. There is only one part number for that exchanger:

Part Number: 91.936SSI
Alt. Number: SSI 1623105312

Thick flange for my '77. I'm putting them on now. Actually I'm drilling out the broken exhaust studs right now. Not much fun.

Edit: The link of SSIs you have above don't look at all right to my untrained eye. I started another thread with as much detailed info. as I thought pertinent and added some pictures.
