CSI to Webbers

I am thinking about selling off my perfectly working CSI and installing a used set of 40 mm (?) webbers on my 78 SC motor.

Why? Just because it will clean up the engine compartment...

I was also thinking about selling off the ditributor and CDI box and going to an electromotive crankfired set up.

Why? just to clean up the engine compartment.

Also thought it would be easier to work on. etc.

I was also thinking of selling my SSIs and going to race headers with a muffler (custom) and junking the heater blower stuff. Then I would use one of those little heaters that you plug into the cig lighter hole.

why? just to clean up the engine compartment.

By the way I am keeping the AC!!

I saw a race 911 at a vintage race the other day and it was so clean in the engine compartment - truly beautiful. my car is a 73 (soon to be RS look) with a 78 SC motor so no emissions. Street/DE/auto X car - not a daily driver. I am not looking for more performance from the motor necessarily (though I would probably go to S cams next rebuild)

Am I nuts? Flame on!!

it's a hijacking....

You are nuts, but that's what we like about you....

If you've got the cash to spend, or the CIS sell off will fund it...DO IT.

been welding....need a hat...got the pass. side rocker in...

Since it is in a '73, no you are not nuts.

The headers aren't going to help much on a stock SC engine. If you put in the S cams, then it'd be worth it though.

And while on the S cam subject, don't forget that you'll have to replace the stock SC CIS pistons to get enough valve clearance for those early S cams.

So, unless you plan on getting serious, don't do it one piece at a time. It all has to work together.

Here's an idea of what your "cleaned up" 3.0 might look like. I haven't removed all the heater stuff yet and I have MSD rather than electromotive. BTW those carbs are reworked 40mm Zenith's with 36mm venturis, you're going to love the throttle reponse if you set those weber's up right!

Nice engine bay Quiet Boom! I will have to look at an early car and see how the heater blower works, I cant even see a blower in the picture? Imagine how clean it would be without a distributor and the MSD boxes.

Oops funny I had been watching Miami CSI that night, thats alomost a trademark violation!!!

Nice welding Stephen. Can you weld a couple of 2" megaphones on my sport muffler for me?

Right on the S cams. I was looking at Andersons book last night. Sounds like I can add the webbers without doing anything else but the cams would go in at the same time as a rebuild with properly clearanced pistons.. I need P/Cs anyway.

Just a little reminder from someone who's gone from a '73.5 CIS to 40 PMOs, you're fuel milage will tank (24 down to 13 mpg in my case)! If that's not a major issue (weekend driver / racer / more money than God) go for it.

Hmm mileage isnt a major issue but that is a big drop.

Wayne can I get an introduction to the blonde lady on CSI? (:-O)

I just read on another thread how to get rid of the heater blower. That would be a nice start. I wonder how important the cooling air blowing on the heat exchanger is??
