Backdating rear quarter windows?
I know it's likely been discussed a hundred times but couldn't find it in the searches. What do I need to backdate my sc to opening rear quarter windows besides the trip piece and window with latches? Do I need the pillar cut from earlier car or how do I install these? Thx mark
Ps. If u know of any threads showing "backdate quarter windows for dummy's" I'd appreciate the links. I'm sure others would appreciate this too |

Pop out quarter windows
Tried to find the post re above, think it was on Rennlist but could not find a second time.
From memory, the guy had to drill out the spot welds on the "B" pillar to remove what he termed thin strips of rt angled metal - there was a pic of this on the post and these strips were attd to both the inside and outside of the car on the "B" pillar. These pieces occupied the vertical section of the "B" pillar but not sure if he had to do this all the way around the perimeter of the opening - just can't remember. I remember him saying that these strips were very thin and that they were probably not needed for the structure of the car - only for the seals. This procedure is required to expose the slots that the pop window brackets fit into on the "B". Aft, for the latches, he had to tap the (3) holes hiding behind the headliner. The rest seemed fairly straightforward to do. I was interested in this post since I wanted to do this on my 78 SC and had acquired the PO windows. I later changed my mind and decided to keep it stock since I did not want to drill into the car. I still have the windows, trim, seals and all the hardware - even bought new plastic bases for the latches - which I would sell for $600 if you are interested. The latches are complete and nice - no broken or chipped areas, but they have some chrome pimples and therefore need re-chroming. Rob

Correct, it is only a small vertical strip to be removed. I ground through the spots on the strip - no inadvertent drilling into the b-pillar. If memory serves, it was only about a dozen spots only on the b-pillar itself. There are two slots that become exposed for the hinge/tabs on the window frame. The plates are in there inside the b-pillar but do need to be tapped as was mentioned. One thing I'm not sure about is if there was a plate inside the C-pillar for the latch. I seem to recall there are only 3 holes in the pillar sheet metal but not plate in behind. This is as far as it's progressed. I was sure I had pics but can't find them. Sorry! Tim K |
