The speaker plugs are DIN standard, metra is just a brand name. Be careful if you order them on fleabay as most of them wont accomodate larger than 18ga wire (and that barely fits)

I would trust Bergvill before I would trust Crutchfield. Bergvill's products appear specialized to Porsches, and on this harness in particular he's got a picture of a factory Porsche radio and the white plastic factory harness in question for our older cars. Per website, "Bergvill F/X is specializing in electronics, products and repair services, mainly for Porsche cars. We are situated just outside Oslo, Norway. The company is fully owned by Tore Bergvill, an Electronics Engineer and Porsche enthusiast." Also, Crutchfield says that the Metra harness you found does *not* fit our older cars, even though it looks like it certainly would.

If I were you I'd just install a bog-standard, ubiquitous Chevy harness, label it as such, and get an adapter for that. No great gain buying hard-to-find Porsche connectors just to buy hard-to-find adapters. Another option would be to use standard Molex or Weather Pack connectors.

If the wires are already going to be cut, solve the problem.

I just looked at this kit... It looks like the business too..

Dunno which to get between the two....crutchfield shipping is half the price of the product...crazy
VDub, don't know if you've made a decision on this...I actually ordered this Metra harness from Crutchfield the other day and put it in last night & got rid of my jerry-rigged nonsense. It mated up well. See pic. Price of this at Crutchfield and at Bergvill were the same once shipping was added in. I decided between ordering from a guy in Norway and ordering from a US company I have dealt with a lot over the years which has an excellent return policy, I could return this easily if there were a problem. Crutchfield kit also came with the 4 speaker wire connections (Bergvill doesn't), and the Bergvill harness would have required me to cut the other end of the harness off (it's made for a Continental radio). FWIW and good luck.

Late to the game

I know this is an older post, but I am finding myself in the same position trying to order everything I could possibly need (thanks Covid) before I tear everything down.

I have a few questions, does anyone have photos of what I am going to find under my passenger seat (amp and wiring plugs)? Or photos of the DIN connection that is connected to the AMP under the seat?

Also, what is the wire coming off the DIN near the head unit? Is it a ground? Or does it send a signal to the amp? I'm not sure were it was originally connected and it seems weird that Porsche wanted to just hang free.

Totally agree on this. Bergvill should be able to sell you a harness adaptor that will plug directly into one of their VDO radios. Lots of instructions on their website for various radio configurations. The radio is extremely inexpensive and looks period-correct in the car.
