Seat recommendations? 3.2 Carrera
Does anyone have real world experience and recommendations for seats? I have the stock seats with the red piping which look neat, but I don't find them very comfortable. They are somehow narrow yet without being all that supportive in the corners, and hit me in the shoulders wrong.
I'd like something that works for street and occasional track days. Should recline, tip forward for backseat access. 5-point harness option would be ideal. Understated/good design, not "boy racer" style. Needs a headrest so as not to be fatal in an accident. Recaro Speed has the sort of features I'd like. Recommendations?

I have the factory sport seats and they lock you in solid, I'd hunt down a set of those if possible.

I agree with SoCalSK8r
Factory sport seats were original in my 86 cab. No reason to change! |

My 84 came with the standard seats, I replaced them with factory sport seats this summer. I love them!

I have the same issues, especially in the shoulders. Have a pair of these. Got them from BMW 2002, but I think they are 1970's aftermarket.http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads19/IMG_038412630615631325522635.jpg&imgrefurl=http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/647999-recaro-ls.html&h=480&w=640&tbnid=vITObrq6d1G-AM:&q=1970%27s+recaro+seats&docid=tkIOBwUoXWXhCM&hl=en&ei=sCEGVpSSAsqSyASGsKbQCg&tbm=isch&client=safari&ved=0CB8QMygBMAFqFQoTCJSqofzwk8gCFUoJkgodBpgJqg

Another recommendation for the factory sport seats. Everyone that gets in my car comments on how they hold them in.

Where can you get factory sport seats? I thought they were unobtanium.

I have a different opinion of the factory 81-84 sports seats...they are not comfortable at all to me. I'm 6' and 195 and the sport seats are not wide enough for my back. After an hour or so, I am very uncomfortable. I sold my sports earlier this year and went back to the 86 comfort seats. They are way more comfortable to me and hold me in place really well in spirited driving.
As most will say, it is best to find a car that has the seats you are considering and take a long ride in them. Sitting in one for a few minutes in a showroom is basically useless for making a decision for a street car.

Ben makes a good point, you will want to test-sit any seat you are considering. The same seats that Ben didn't like are great for me (5-11, 185) for hours on end. Seats are very personal.

They show up now and then, but they do sell quickly. Nice ones go for $2-3k, cores suitable for restoration $600-800 typically.

Have the standard factory seats in my 911 but recently picked up a 944 which I am currently doing a rip and rebuild on. Someone had swapped the sport seats for the standard at some point in the past and they are NICE. Total price for the car was far less than just the seats would have cost. Not ALL P.O. actions are bad - just most of them. I'm 6' and 250. They fit me just right.

Has anyone got these Corbeau GTSII seats?
GTS II - Corbeau Racing Seats What I'm coming around to is I think I like the early BMW recaro style seats the best, like E21 Sports, but looking to see how "terrible" a new set of similar seats would be as opposed to fishing for those on the web.

Best seat for you.......
Quote:
Spidklr, As you will find out, asking this kind of question would only confused you. What could be best for me or others could be no good for you. What others like, you may not like it. There is no definite or clear answer to your inquiry. This is similar to buying a pair of shoes. If fit and comfort count more than styling, you decide. Others like sport seats and others don't. Other consideration is the price, I personally would not even consider looking at any seat that would cost me an arm and a leg. Others choose the most expensive seat they could find. Nobody could make a better decision than yourself. Good luck. Tony |

My car came with black leather manual sport seats. They were fairly light weight and comfortable enough to sit in. However, I felt the seat back wasn't high enough for me; I'm 6'4". I lucked out finding a pair of reasonably priced -85+ high back power heated sport seats and swapped out the originals.
I'm happy with the new seats except for one thing: they are really heavy. Although ideally it would be nice for the seats for have harness provisions for DE/autocross purposes.

I recently put a custom S08 program set of Recaro Speed S seats in my '85 911. Massive upgrade over the stock seats in both comfort, support, folding, weight, and likely safety. You can order them with center belt provisions as well.

The cabin of the 911 is narrow, which takes out some options. Is there a list of seats somewhere that has successfully been installed?
The shoulder bolsters of the Recaro above are so close to the seatbelt anchor, I bet it makes reaching for the belt a pain.
