1981 Pacific Blue - Help.

Good morning All,

I am having my 1981 SC re-painted the factory Pacific Blue Metallic (L31G) and the shop sample (PPG paint) is significantly darker than the original colour.

The shop insists that they followed the PPG paint scheme properly - has anyone had this issue with PPG before?

Any suggestions would be appreciated - I would assume a recipe is a recipe and that the PPG product should be close to the original colour.

Thanks,
Chris

Perhaps a coincidence but I owned an '82 928 that was Pacific Blue Metallic with original paint and it was noticeably darker than any 911 I have seen claiming to be the same color.

Mine has also had a repaint, and it looks different from other Pacific Blues - at least those I've seen on pictures.

There's a lot of variables at play. I assume you brought the car to a reputable shop, but knowing a car is getting a complete respray a painter will be less inclined to do the due diligence making sure it's a proper match. Also some paint brands are notorious for having certain codes way out in left field such as Dupont and their Honda reds. The substrate will play a part in the overall color depending on the shade of primer/sealer used.

You can order the same paint mix from dif sources and get a very dif color.....I know as I've ordered touch up paint from a large supplier and have to tell them to have dupont mix it...there other source comes back way too reddish (copper metallic). Happened twice.
