CHT removal _ hot or cold engine?
New thread on a current issue I am resolving with help of others on this board.
When removing my CHT from my 84 3.2, with 50k and 15 years on it, do I want the engine hot, cold or warm? PB blaster applied twice in cold engine so far. Have not touch the sensor yet. I know the first turn on the sensor is the most important to removal without incident. Thanks, Dave |

I replaced mine with a cold engine. This little bugger was difficult. The grommet was a pain, use soapy water. Cut the wire and use a deep 13mm to remove. Have you made the 14mm special socket to install yet? I got a grinder and a cheap deep 14mm from Sears, and put a groove in it so the wires would slide by.
Make sure you buy the two wire. |

CHT is Cylinder Head Temperature sensor. FWIW, I replaced mine in my 3.6 cold. Used a modified deep socket with a slot in it and penetrating oil.

I did mine cold. Cut the wire, use a good quality socket that fits properly.
I guess it is physically possible to do it on a hot engine but that sounds like a great way to have some new burn scars. I made a tool to install the new one. Just a little grinder work and Dremel work. Look around on the other threads on CHT removal. A picture of the tool is worth a ton of typing. Easy to make the tool.

Did mine cold.
I anticipated problems but it was thankfully easy. If you do remove it warm, I would do the install cold.

13 out, 14 in
As I remember it several years back, it was a 13mm that came out but since I was removing it for replacement, just cut the wires and used a standard socket. To install, I took a deep 14 or again as I remember it, took a decimal deep socket (there is one pretty close to14mm) that was spare not being used in my box and slotted that to install. You only lightly torque it.
