1972 911T with '86 Turbo Project thread
I have posted some questions on and off here when I found my car and after I purchased it. I am doing a lot of work now do I thought I'd document it here as I go
The story: Found this 1972T ROW car in the garage of an 85 year old German guy who owned it since 1990. In 92' he had a 1986 930 turbo motor and trans installed out of a wrecked 930. He remembered the motor having less than 30,000 miles on it when it was put in. We shall see! The car was forwarded dated with exterior widebody steel parts in Germany before he bought it her in Chicago. The interior is pretty mint, body has little rust and needs some tlc. My 14 year old son and girls are working on it now, I'll post as I do work on my project Here is how it say for 15+ years, only 130 miles in 23 years! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468108490.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468108523.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468108559.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468108617.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468108677.jpg |

Some progress on bodywork and engine cleaning
Weekend had some great progress on getting the rear quarter in primer and close. Plus cleaning all the crazy stuff out of the engine bay. 2-post lift in tomorrow so I can start the process to get it running.

Will the IC still fit under that hood?
|
Yes the intercooler fits under the ducktail nicely
Yes the intercooler fits under the ducktail nicely,
I did a bunch of searching and found a few guys who made it work, needed to tweak the fiberglass in a few areas, but closes nicely and is very stealth. I am planning on adding another vent area to expose more of the intercooler. Excuse the roughness of the fiberglass here, I still need to finish the details for final http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468928642.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1468928676.jpg |
I'll sleep better knowing those rear vents are gone. Nice work.
|
I'm already sleeping better, if anyone needs vents for thief VW Vanogan let me know, I've got two you can have!! Lol
|
Nice, already looks better. That car is going to scoot with that motor.
|
2-post lift installed today, gonna make the process much quicker to get the car back on the road!

I can't thank you enough for removing those rear vents. too bad the external oil filler is gone :(

the world is a much better place without those fender vents. Nice body work
|
Agreed, if anyone is wanting to add some I can share detailed pictures of the metal work required to make a widebody 911 look hideous real quick!!! LOL

Bodywork on the passengers side almost done, need to tweak the rear arch body line, but it's close now! Looks so much better without the vents!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1469996761.jpg

(Posted in 930 Area too, Just wanting to keep the project thread alive)
I got the car running yesterday, took off the CIS and got the plunger to move freely with some carb cleaner and by twisting it with pliers very carefully, then worked it up and down with carb cleaner and WD40 to get it nice and clean. Always made sure it did not come all the way out. I could not find any picts of the plunger up, so here is the before and after Plunger Stuck Down http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1470670813.jpg Plunger up and Moving Freely http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1470670851.jpg At first thought I had major issues as the exhaust was smoking bad... First Start Video - Smoking A Lot https://youtu.be/9SdJUlyoAUk Came to find that mice had made some nests of #@#! in the exhaust pipe so it was all burning off... I took the muffler off and started building my new 3" exhaust system just to be sure... Much better. I am thinking it is the accumulator and I know the Cold start injector is disconnected. Any ideas on what to check, it idles and runs fine once started, but takes a lot of cranking and me opening the air flap/intake under the filter to start, hot or cold http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1470669157.jpg |
17" Wheels painted and ready for new rubber, love the black out look on a white car!
