I went out had the "Blaupunkt" and "Reno" decals made. I did it just for myself and my project car that I'm trying to get all the "mid-80s" details right on, but if anyone else is interested, I'm happy to share.

If you'd like a set, Paypal $15 with your address to Dave at ragedriftdesigns@yahoo.com and he'll send a set out to you.

Well I installed the Conti and tossed the old jbl amp. Very happy with the appearance. Phone works well as does Bluetooth audio. Have not tried the usb yet. The internal amp sounds no better than the old jbl it replaced actually probably not quite as good ( sounds a little thin ) so I think I will plan on getting a decent amp and updating the speakers as well to complete the install.
Need to look at the speaker threads now.

Hi! I just ran into this thread. There is guy here in Mt. Juliet, TN that mods the original radio for you at a reasonable price. He did my radio in my '65 911...I love playing my favorite play lists using the Bluetooth option and maintaining originality. Just thought I'd throw that out there for your consideration. His name is Richard Blankenship and this is his web page:

R and B Vintage Radio Home

Cheers!

Hi,

With regards to the Continental radio unit, did any of you purchase any specific harness, or you just used the one already installed in your Porsche? (Right now I have the Blaunkput Charleston SQR26 that came w/ the car).

Thanks!

Tore Bergvill is on Rennlist, and he offers specifically what you need dependent on the year and options on your car.

This way, I can have an original look, plus updated sound (I already updated the speakers), along with verstility for mobile tunes. I just ordered, so will report back after i receive it and do the install.

Soundstream ST4.1000DB 4-channel marine/powersports amplifier with Bluetooth® — 90 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com
So, I did this install. Photos here show the former (current-tech) head unit; the newly installed "original" Charleston head unit, and the SoundStream aux amp (mounted under the passenger seat).

Since I am not an electronics whiz, I had to take my time with every connection and double/triple check my work. The Charleston was original to my car, but the PO had put in the "current tech JVC unit. I found an original here on Pelican and that's what I "re-installed", along with the aux amp. At the end of the process, I have a period correct head unit that has enhanced power output in "radio" mode, but can play my iPhone music via Bluetooth. Here is my low-down on the set-up:

Good:
Can access my tunes with a simple pairing (pretty reliable, but not perfect).
Better sound output from the Charleston radio than stock (it's the 90 watts/ch amp that does it).
Pretty cheap solution (I paid $130 for the aux amp on Amazon)

PITA:
Instructions from Soundstream SUCK. I had to call their technical guy in California for help (the unit is manufactured in Korea, and whoever translated from Korean to English must have only had a couple of English lessons...).
When you are in Bluetooth mode, the volume is controlled by your digital device, not the head unit. This actually is not a bad thing, but takes getting used to.

Ultimately, you can decide which way to go. This option fits for me, as I really like the original Charleston look. YMMV, though.

I like that thing. Decent amp and built-in crossovers. I do wish it had some kind of physical knob to change the volume and skip tracks, though. I will never want to use a touch device as my audio interface.

Blaupunkt Lexington CM84

I have Blaupunkt Lexington CM84. Added bluetooth adapters hidden at the center console and while at it, put usb beside the lighter. I basically use it for hands free incase i receive a call while driving. I have amps and cross overs for my pioneers. Same set up i had with the Monterey until i decided to preserve and store the latter. Better sounding than the Monterey.

Has anybody experienced any Bluetooth issues with the Continental radio?

Yes, I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread. When using gps aps on my iphone the first second of audio is often cut off. Google it lots of discussion and not unique to this head unit.

I've noticed more BT issues since I went from an iPhone 5S to a 6S. Zombie Steve Jobs needs to go to Apple headquarters and kick some ass.

For iPhone, an Airplay connection is far superior to BT. Higher quality audio and the GPS audio automatically dips the music playing from the phone

Does that come in and attractive believably 80s Germanic looking package for less than $150?

An adapter could be added to any radio with an aux input and just use the BT for the phone connection

This is going to sound really dumb but has anyone figured out how to set the Continental to display the clock continuously? I can only get it to display, then go back to the tuner.

The Conti is indeed a nice looking unit. Now I have to wait 2 weeks before I can install, my car is at the bodyshop thanks to a 17' truck who wanted to be in my lane regardless of me being there already!
