https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System

PTY (programme type)This coding of up to 31 pre-defined programme types (e.g., in Europe: PTY1 News, PTY6 Drama, PTY11 Rock music) allows users to find similar programming by genre. PTY31 seems to be reserved for emergency announcements in the event of natural disasters or other major calamities.

TA, TP (traffic announcement, traffic programme)The receiver can often be set to pay special attention to this flag and, for example, stop the tape/pause the CD or retune to receive a traffic bulletin. The TP flag is used to allow the user to find only those stations that regularly broadcast traffic bulletins whereas the TA flag is used to signal an actual traffic bulletin in progress, with radio units perhaps performing other actions such as stopping a cassette tape (so the radio can be heard) or raising the volume during the traffic bulletin.

AF (alternative frequencies)This allows a receiver to re-tune to a different frequency providing the same station when the first signal becomes too weak (e.g., when moving out of range). This is often used in car stereo systems.

REG (regional)This is mainly used in countries where national broadcasters run "region-specific" programming such as regional opt-outs on some of their transmitters. This functionality allows the user to "lock-down" the set to their current region or let the radio tune into other region-specific programming as they move into the other region.

CT (clock time)Can synchronize a clock in the receiver or the main clock in a car. Due to transmission vagaries, CT can only be accurate to within 100 ms of UTC.

Thanks. The price must be why I missed it the first time around.

I looked it up too - it's actually this one:
Pioneer DEH-80PRS CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Seems to be available for $250-$300 at various vendors.

You sure -- the image for the DEH-80PRS doesn't look anything like the one that Rocketwrench posted and, if I zoom way in on the upper left corner of the faceplate on his image I can "JUST" make out DEX-P99RS

Agree. The P99RS is quite good looking. I'd have been happy with that one in my car. The cheaper one, not so much.

FWIW, I am going to leave my vintage Charleston in the dash, but have it run into a Soundstream ST4.1000DB amp I will install under the passenger seat (4-channels @ 90W RMS). The cool think about the amp, though, is that is has Bluetooth for connection directly to mobile devices. This way, I can have an original look, plus updated sound (I already updated the speakers), along with verstility for mobile tunes. I just ordered, so will report back after i receive it and do the install.

Soundstream ST4.1000DB 4-channel marine/powersports amplifier with Bluetooth® — 90 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com

To work properly when the car is turned off and on, it should be wired with Battery (constant power) to A7 and switched power (Ignition or accessory) to A4.

Wow, please update once you get a chance to use it. Might be a cheaper alternative to the Out of Sight Audio unit.

The first is the unit reverts to "off" when the car is turned off and restarted. Every other radio I've had in 35 years, if you leave the radio on when you turn the car off, the radio will be on when you start the car again.

With this one, every time you start the car, you have to turn the radio on.

Do yours do this (is this how it's supposed to function?)
Mine doesn't anymore. Set the system setting "Logic" to "On". Then the radio starts automatically with the ignition if it was on when you turned the car off.

See bottom left column in the manual snippet below.

Another, even cheaper option is to fit bluetooth receiver "upstream" of a normal power amp and use the bluetooth receiver's output to "feed" a line level signal to the poweramp via rca jacks. Bluetooth receivers can be had for under $30 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G57CWZ8/ref=s9_psimh_gw_g107_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=QQ698TX37QZA546Y79V5&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop

Another option would be to substitute the bluetooth receiver for a cd changer . . .

I tried mine again with Logic turned On and also tried with it Off. Only way the radio would power back on was if I turned ignition back on in 2 seconds or less. Maybe something with the wiring?

Yeah, sorry. I was looking at the model Tremelune posted.

I need to get my priorities straight and stop trying to work while posting.

Very puzzling.

A couple of questions re the Continental unit;

1. Can you stream music from iPhone (Pandora for example) via Bluetooth?

2. USB does NOT charge, correct?

Do you have battery and ignition correct? I had to switch them in my car. Pin 4 should be ignition and pin 7 should be battery +

If they were switched like that, wouldn't the radio stay on when the ignition was turned off?
