This is fantastic work, I’m very jealous. Also, I can stop wondering what my 87 in Granite Green would look like backdated :)

Red Diamond Stitched Leather Engine Pad
Red Diamond Stitched Leather Engine Pad with 1/2 inch padding for my 87-88 Carreras
1. I remove all the old padding/foam from the body 2. Use acetone to prep the metal surfaces 3. Install Dynamat in the engine compartment 4. Trim the metal end tabs 5. Glue with 3M #2 interior glue-let both sides tack for 3-5 minutes 6. Expensive at $350-it's high grade leather 7. You will never need another engine pad and its looks pretty cool 8. More pictures coming in a few days after the install http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554414406.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554414406.JPG |
On the granite green car what ST flares did you use and what are the specs on the wheels? Are they custom or did you use spacers to bring them out?
|
ST flares are thermoformed from one piece of steel
I got them originally from the manufacturer and are now distributed by AASE $4K http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554470535.JPG Wheels are 16" Turbo Fuchs w/three colors and cleared-very labor intensive Excellence Paint in VB did the amazing work http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554470535.JPG Custom Elephant Racing spacers-do you need the mm? |

The flares looks great too. They have the correct shape. Sometimes I see “ST” flares that look more like turbo flares with the flat vertical section just above the fender edge. Yours are nice and round all the way through. |
Back On Suspension
Replaced body hardware with stainless
Replaced bumper shock and hardware Refinished fender supports on left side-drilled hole to release moisture Need to do some touch up work http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559259286.JPG Bottom Pan-Acetone clean, prep w_gloves,Primed,Lacquer,Clear Bottom pan is very smooth and shiny, very easy to clean now All new Griffiths AC system-compressor/dryer/front/rear condenser and their pressure lines. All new hardware for AC lines. I have the compete Griffiths AC system in my Granite Green ST and it blows cold at idle. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559259286.JPG Glass bead blast rear sway bar/refinish/new sway bar bushings http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559259286.JPG On to the front!!! |
Grinding all the crap off my front sway bar, sweating like a pig in 90 degree 100% humidity FL weather.
Joy of joys, my new expensive compressor smokes a capacitor and the pressure control valve. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559413301.JPG Great parts made in China...none local...wait till Tuesday. Very very pissed off, so much for getting ahead today Glass beading will have to wait, really dreaming about a new GT3 today. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559413301.JPG |
Front Suspension Rebuild
The new pressure valve and the capacitors came for the compressor-its working and smells really hot right now.
I've been glass bead blasting for at least a week, I do it outside because little glass beads end up getting every where-its like rolling in the sand in 90 degree heat while sweating. 4 hours for the main aluminum support beam-what else do you call it? Acetone cleaned it and cleared it with Eastwood aluminum clear. Sanded the front sway bar and then bead blasted it. Painted the sway bar with Eastwood metal paint-this stuff needs 2-3 days to completely dry. Sprayed 3 separate coats of Eastwood clear. Installed the Bilstein cartridges in the original Boge struts. Factory John Deere green paint for the top caps-(best paint ever) and cleared Elephant racing package came today with all my bushings and the A arm tool so Ill be breaking those down tomorrow with some heat. Rebuilt and greased the steering rack, repacked the upper shaft support bushing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561513039.JPG |
While I'm in There Jobs
Before installing the steering rack I hand sanded and painted the smugglers box
Also had some titanium bolts laying around and used them for the rack bearing mount http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561827169.JPG Cleaned the air handler box for the new Kuehl system evaporator and the expensive factory Porsche seals. I'm installing all the Kuehl system hoses and new mounting hardware. The Kuehl system really works here in Florida. It blows cold at idle in my Granite Green ST. I'm hoping it works just as well in this one. I use 3m gasket seal for a permanent attachment-let both sides tack for 2-3 minutes. Then stick them together. -a new owner down the road might have the enjoyment one day of scraping them off...Not me http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561827169.JPG Back outside (It's Hot and Humid) to bead blasting and R&R the A arm bushings from Elephant or Maybe I'll just stay in the AC'd garage and work on the M3 |
car
Im up in Boca Raton....I also have 2 g50 cars..a red/linen 1988 and a black/tan 1988 I want to improve my ac and have used Griffiths stuff before and liked...don't really want to do a rear condenser was thinking just a new evaporator and front condenser..what did you use? mike
|
I installed the complete Griffiths unit, hoses, front and rear condenser, evaporator in smugglers box, dryer, O-rings and switch. I also replaced and made the evaporator air box air tight. I do not use the factory airbox and vent controls-it's a closed unit, very cold. I didn't need the rear fender condenser.
|
Installed the rebuilt steering rack/attached the new fuel lines
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562123525.JPG Insulated the oil lines with rubber I sanded and cleared them with Eastwood clear-it handles the temperature http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562123525.JPG New hardware for the Griffiths AC lines The old original lines lost pressure each year (it was the type of hose originally used by Porsche) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562123525.JPG |
Front Suspension
I've really had a hard time with the front suspension
Dumb A$$ me thought assembly would be completed on the chassis... Tried to assemble but had to remove the front I beam to install the control arms I had to use my press to install them from the extra thickness from the sprayed Eastwood clear coat http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg Spent abnormal amount of time glass bead blasting the strut assemblies, L/R A arms, sway bar and the center I beam. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg After changing the front inserts one side was rebounding/binding slower from over tightening the strut housing collar. Installed the bright red Rennline front and rear toe hooks-great for scraping the ground first. The front brake shields are original, I should have replaced them. they didn't come out great for all the labor put into them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg I installed all new A arm and sway bar bushings from Elephant Racing Using DOW Molycote grease for bushing has a drawback-the bushings slide apart until they are completely assembled. I had to use safety wire for bench assembly. The A arm bushings slide around like mono-balls-maybe http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg Purchased from Pelican all new Porsche harware http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg Redid the front wiring harness to the New LED headlights from Closed Course and SpokeWerks. Really great stuff from both of them. I made custom Hi Intensity LED fog light assembly inserts from Rigid. I replaced most of the body hardware to new and/or stainless and nylocks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg I ran the new AC lines to the smuggles box. Now I gotta find the O-rings??? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg Indexed the torsion bars and shocks so I can hopefully drive for the alignment process. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563212435.jpg |
