1970 911 E Serial numbers

I have come across three 911's sitting in a yard. The one I'm really interested in has a serial #911021----, this would make it a 1970 911E Targa. It does have the 2.2 Liter still in it, but missing the injection, now webbers.

My question is; The 911 T, E and S had engine serial number to match the model, but I'm a little uncertain about what the sequence of motor serial number should be from the internet sites. Does anyone know for certain? When I look at the car again on Sunday, I would like to determine if it has a matching E motor.

Also, one coupe was manufactured 10/1973 and sold in 1974. It has had body modifications to 911sc spec's. With this build date could this car have been a late long hood model? Serial #9114100802

You can find the engine serial number and type number information for the 1970 E in the V-pages section of the PET software, which you can get for free from Porsche.

The coupe you mentioned is a '74 model, no chance it's a long hood.

This is from the PET V pages. Early 1970's engine numbers. Hope this helps

rkulina: JR is the Master on this stuff, so this is just additive to his post. The serial number on the 1970 indicates 1970 Targa E, but you need to post the engine serial number - should start with 620XXXX. Manual Trans 911/01 or Sporto 905/20.

Also suggest you look at 911 E registry if you have an E. Tons of info there, you can get a fair idea if engine and vin are matching - not exact.

Cheers

Excellent, Thanks everyone for your help. I'll have more info and be able to check the serial number better on the motors Sunday. The 3rd car is a 1975 911S, but it has a weird identification plate with a persons name that imported it. Interesting color, looks like an ice green/silver color.

Rkulina:

This doesn't address your question directly, as the data is for the 1970S models. Its from the Early 911S Registry data base. Individual owners provide their engine # and VIN. Note that the cars that have had an engine transplant really stand out. There is close to a linear correlation for the "numbers match" cars.

SReg is not a pay site. Your info is quite skewed and I would hate for people
tginking to avoid the site based on unfounded statements presented as fact. One has full access to the site with a registered user account just like Pelican. There is no requirement to pay for a membership to use the forums or have access to the great resources archived. Now, to receive a list of members cars in the registry, one does need to be a paying member which also buys one the quarterly club magazine with a yearly subscription.

If you can ignore all the chatter of values, you’ll find the knowledge and passion of its members quite astounding.

Matt, the Early 911S Registry forum is not a "pay site", and membership in the Registry is not required to participate.
Please join and contribute. It's a superb forum for all pre-74 911 models.

I’m a member of the forum and have been a paid member of the registry for years though my membership is technically expired at the moment.

Even a paid member of the registry cannot see pictures if not actually logged in (like some random visitor).

I’ve pulled my comments as I don’t want to take this guy’s thread about his car off topic with this EarlyS discussion. I’m glad to know there’s an E Registry. Maybe I’ll find my engine’s car there. Carry on...
