My first Porsche (2008), A non running 924S was given to me for free by a family friend who really really wanted it gone.
My second Porsche (2011) was a beautiful 78SC Targa, purchased for 9K with a recently rebuilt engine and new seats. Still chugging along today beautifully. This was about the low point in the market for these cars and its hard to find a nice running example for under 10K but you can for sure find them for around that. My third P-car (2012) was a really minty 87 944 that I bought for 4K. Those cars still seem to be in that price range but are steadily rising along with the 911's of that vintage. I would say, get them now while you still can! My biggest regret: by far, not strongly considering an early year turbo back in 2010, they were cheap, no one wanted them for some strange reason and the prices as of late have sky rocketed. My biggest saving grace: buying my 911SC over the Lotus Esprit Turbo I was looking at... Regards Dave

You can find tons of 944s and 914s in good running condition for under $10K. 911s in good condition under that amount? If anyone knows, please tell me, but keep it quiet.
Perhaps the title needs to read, for people going to prior years, Can you really buy a solid 911 RIGHT NOW under $10K? Yeah I bought one for $7K back in '83, but that is not the question.

My answer to this question is: '70 S purchased for $6,200. Its a numbers matching car, with paperwork back to the day the OE picked up the car at the factory. When I purchased it, it was in excellent condition and had just undergone a full engine rebuild. The explanation is that I bought it in '78 (it sold new for $8,400 in Jan. '70) when it was just a used sports car with 90,000 miles. Yes, I still have it. Yes, those were the good old days for a long hood.

Dave - that's quite a collection you've had. I completely agree with you 944; and was just talking to someone about getting one before they jump up in value. In 2011, I remember looking at a great condition 78' SC with 42k miles for $18,000 - probably shoulda pulled the trigger on that one!

Might be time to send some of these tech articles out to pasture. The prices are irrelevant, and there's no mention of the 986/996 or Cayenne.

I got close....
I purchased this 1980 Weissach in Oct 2015 for $11k. It had been sitting indoors for several years, I got it running and now undergoing some detailing.

Now, I have seen some real 356 specimens out there that would barely qualify as a parts car, but I will bet guys are rebuilding. I can remember when a 4 cam or America Roadster could be purchased by a regular person.
good luck with your search |

I got this one for 7k oct 2015:
![]() It's a 77s originally in sienna metallic. The owner and I had been dancing around the sale for about 7 years. It needs a nose job (slant nose conversion) and respray back to the original color, but it had the complete 930 suspension installed when converted. It will be returned to 930 look, since the flare job in the rear is a really high quality job, and changing the rear quarters to skinny and the suspension back to stock would cost a fortune. I keep finding nice things about it, like oem turbo fuchs 7 & 8s, bilstein shocks, 930 torsion bars, pop up rear windows, non-sunroof, and the list goes on. I should change my username to lucky dog! |

My first Porsche was a 1971 911L for $6500, but it didn't have an engine.
