Couple quick questions...... how do i get the cylinder head temp wire off the sender ? Or do i just remove the sensor ?

What hose went here ?


Also, can this pipe be replaced, my rubber section is cracked. Or do i just need to remake my own ?

Nice work...just spent the last two years doing the same on my '87.

Having just completed the work I can give this advice; everyone should rebuild an engine one time in their life...ONCE!

In all seriousness, I did enjoy the process and will certainly go through the process again, if and when the need should arise.

Enjoy the process and, don't spend too much money on 'while you're in there' type items!

I ended up using self fusing silicone "rescue tape" per the suggestions on my thread. Its worked for three years...

Spent the evening stripping the motor down .... got this far, plus removal of the oil cooler.




Any reason NOT to take the pressure washer to the transmission ? This thing is filthy !

If you search the forum you'll see that others have, though I didn't at the time when I was cleaning mine...wished I had as it took me quite a long time with oven cleaner! I guess I wouldn't have had that 'lemon fresh sent' any other way...

Here's mine...before and after.

No problems Pressure washing, just mask the TOB Guide Tube, Upper Vent, Reverse Light Switch and Nose In Put shaft seal. Try not to focus on the high pressure stream on the masked areas and DIFF's flanged ends for obvious reasons, then use compressor to blow away excess water.

I am taking mine to the local self car wash.

Not much progress today. Had to go back to work.

I did get a handful of parts run thru the parts washer at work though, and removed the flywheel and rear main seal. I'd have to say it was leaking, at least i hope it was as that would explain some of the oil leaks this pig had. But, with everything leaking from up top it's hard to judge any other leak areas below.

Two fresh questions:

Name this part- Found it laying at top of engine.


Any cool fixes for the deteriorating insulation from this wiring ? It's literally crumbling apart. I figure i'll slit some appropriate vacuum line and recover it. Thoughts ?

Vacuum hose is a nice trick, just make sure they Ohm out properly.

As far as the metal thing, hmmm, never saw anything like that on mine or other 3.2s. put a ruler to it so we can tell what it might go to.

Hmmm, that one is a strange one.

As far as the oil, signs of too much oil in the tank.

on previous post, that blue rim tab goes to the AAV.

Definitely not too much oil in the tank. With as much as it was leaking/burning, it was always about a quart low. And i mean a qt. under the preferred middle mark.
