Kahiko Customs & Restorations, Charles City VA. Check the Early 911S Registry for more info, General Forum, search Irish Green paint.

NoVA Painter

No personal experience - but I found this guy based on positive reviews from a few folks in the DC area. I plan to check into him when I'm ready to have mine painted:

Portfolio - Karasinski Â*Restorations

The Dorki site has a bunch of Northern VA folks on it, and a few reviews for this guy.

Good luck,

Gordo

I have to go with Scott @ Kahiko Customs. Seen several of his jobs, got one going in soon.

Chuck's Frame Shop on Brook Rd next to Lufteknic did a phenomenal job for me on my car.

Not that you need another comment, but Scotty at Kahiko Customs has my '71 Six and is doing a complete restoration/build. He does outstanding metal work too. Give my build thread a look if you want to see the extent of the work he does. My build thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=188776

I live in richmond. Burleigh's is very good, personal experience. The body shop next to Lufteknic is known to be good, no personal experience.

I tried to edit my original 1/2017 post but was unable to so I will add this.

I ended up pulling my car out of Scotty B's shop in July of 2017 in pieces. The car had rust on it and the parts were scattered all over his shop and unlabeled. He had my car for 61 months and the work he did was sub-standard. A lot of my parts never were able to be located. I paid Scotty a lot of money. He did refund me $6K over two-plus years, but I still lost over $25K I paid him.

I had to pay to have almost all of Scotty's work completely re-done. His work almost destroyed my chassis. My car is now a Concours level car with over 2,200 miles on it thanks to a talented group in Los Angeles. Consumers beware of Kahiko Customs and Scotty B.

Wow, interesting timing for this thread to appear. I just recently talked with a couple of guys here in MD at a local cars and coffee that seem to be having a similar issue with this guy.

The owner of the car said the metal-work and prep appeared to be nicely done, but he's not sure about the paint because the guy cant seem to get it finished, he says 3 weeks to completion and 6 months later is still not done, always excuses as the wait passes into another year! Sad part is this guy was no wait payer, draw after draw with no lag-time so the car should've been done 2 yrs ago!

He even showed me where the shop has taken in a couple of other projects (one of them being a pretty bad 71 burn car that has a thread hear on the bird) and got them out while this guy's car his just sits! Really sad to hear.

I guess the bright side is that the car owner has a close relative that sits on or works with the State Legislature and overseas some kind of business committee so in essence, I think this one could be about to get interesting. Good luck to all parties involved.
Ciao

Cairo, why not just get over it and let sleeping dogs lie. Your car is done, you're happy with it, just leave it at that...no reason to sling mud.

I drive past Kahikos nearly every week as I live just on the other side of the river. I thought about dropping in and seeing if they needed some help in the form of me moonlighting doing metal work but it sounds like they are like most every other resto place.... taking too much work at one time then taking quick jobs they can do start to finish while the longer term consistent paying customers jobs sit and collect dust getting just enough work done to string them along. Its sad but I can see how they can easily get themselves into that kind of mess when trustworthy and quality body and paint guys are hard to come by.

Respectfully, I don't see any problem with someone giving a warning to others about this kind of work. I've been in the same situation with another car and when its something like a family heirloom car or something you are paying consistently on expecting good progress in return it can really weigh on you. Just my opinion of course.

You should stop by and chat with Scotty, I’m sure he’d be thrilled with any help.
He’s basically a one man show trying to find a good helper he doesn’t have to redo the work of.

Chucks Frame Shop did a fabulous job on mine. When I was there, he had a number of Cole Scrogham cars in the works
