3L Throttle Body Differences

The “D” or flat orientation on my 1982 throttle body is creating some issues with my EFI install. Does anybody have pictures or know if other 3.0 years are all the same? Mine:

The 2.7 throttle body seems to have an orientation that is about 160 degrees different.

There are definite differences. The throttle body on my 1979 has a shaft that does not stick out of the throttle body at all. Kind of hard to put a TPS like that! Also, the top vacuum port on the right with the 90 degree bend is not there.

When going EFI, I sourced a throttle body exactly like yours. I used the Rasant TPS adapter and had to modify it extensively to get it to work.

Hopefully someone can suggest a plug and play for your throttle body. Two other providers you can check are Clewett Engineering and Turbokraft.

Thanks Dr. J . I'm also using the Rasant kit and am guessing you haven't shared your modifications with Rasant as they are unaware of any compatibility issues with the 3.0L throttle body. It would appear, based on my mock-ups, that I can reverse the adapter by drilling new TB mounting holes in opposite corners. This would orient the plug upward and place the TPS plug facing upwards and slightly rearward. I'm assuming the wiring will still reach that position.

Not sure if you documented your TPS modifications, but I'll search for your thread. I believe I followed your guidance in the dual knock sensor installation so I probably have it saved.

Are you installing TPS ?

I have the same throttle body and found a second hand one from a BMW to work well using a alu plate as an adapter. Works well and thankfully all but invisible

Thanks trond. Since I have the TPS from the kit (and the wiring loom is built with that particular connector), I'll try modifying what I have first.

I did the same as Trond, except with 3/8" phenolic that I could cut on a table saw.

Trond,

Is the BMW TPS clockwise or CCW? I was thinking CW for full throttle with orientation of the wiring to the rear.

Also, did you have to shorten the D shaft to get the TPS to seat with the adapter plate you show?

thanks,
