The Fifteen Minute Cup Holder
This is the fastest, cheapest mod I have ever done. inspiration came from the Queen’s thread, but with a twist. The mount moves forward and backward with the passenger seat and is very low profile visually and doesn’t interfere with passenger seating. The cage accommodates large to small cups and containers and holds them very securely.
1 water bottle cage, plastic so no one gets hurt 1 L shaped bracket commonly used to hang drapes or blinds 3 nuts and screws with lock washers 1 Philips screw driver 2 wrenches/spanners A drill if needed Hack saw Use the hack saw to cut off the curved top piece of bottle cage since it will interfere with you beverage. Drill slightly larger holes in the L bracket to accommodate the nuts and bolts you have selected. Mount the short length of the bracket to the mounting holes of the cage Unscrew the two cover screws on the front of the seat, if you have a cover. Use one of two holes on the left side of the seat to mount the cage. Use lock washer and threadlock. Replace plastic seat front cover. Slightlybend the bracket forward if needed. Done, have a beer since you just saved $60 over the commercially available ones. Note, does not come with footwell mood lighting. Could have painted the bracket black if I had 10 more minutes but was rushing to go out to a show. Probably will do that soon and move the bracket out just a touch. The cup size shown is grande. ![]()

Cool item and glad everyone else understands the material involved, but I admit to not knowing what a water bottle 'cage' is and simply do not recognize it with the photo.. Please help...thanks!!

A bottle cage holds a water bottle on a bicycle.
That one in the photos is an old Specialized cage probably about 25 years old or better. Nice repurposing of an easily available item....

Here’s a cage for next to nothing which should work fine at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Ecosin-Fashion-Durable-Mountain-Bicycle/dp/B072M4GR16/ref=sr_1_95?ie=UTF8&qid=1511797740&sr=8-95&keywords=bicycle+water+bottle+cage

Most welcome. PM if you have questions. For about $6 you can’t go too wrong and it’s easily reversible.

Nice job, Bob.
Though I’m wondering why more folks don’t utilize the side door pocket for this purpose... I also use the connection rig for an ancient mobile phone to prop up my beverages between it and the center console.

Nicely done, I'm surprised that nobody has introduced a similar universal product as there are many cars without cupholders, but every car has seat rails. Personally I use the cigarette lighter cupholder that Pelican sells, it gets the job done but I certainly wouldn't trust it to anything without a lid.

My Yeti is to fat to fit in my door pocket holder. My old travel mugs fit pretty snug, but on occasion would get loose and coffee splashes out when you close the door.

Precisely!
I bought one of the door cup holders sold here, but it is bulky, heavy and you have to remove your beverage before shutting the door or else you wear it. If anyone wants it, $10 plus shipping. PM me. (Bright people don’t slam something they want to unload, but I was never accused of having that affliction.)

I love those old specialized cages... I don't think I've ever launched a water bottle out of one.
Somewhere i have a stockpile of them.

clamping cup holder
Great idea! My solution ("Swagman to-go" bottle cage) is similar but requires no tools--just clamps onto the front of the seat rail (the clamp slides to the bottom of cage). Benefit is that you just unclamp it when not needed. Drawback is that it doesn't slide with the seat, so you can't slide the seat all the way forward, but rare that you need to. Sorry I have no pics of it installed (car in storage). Been using it for ~3yr with no fails.

Too funny. I had a Ti cage I cut down and installed the same way in the 914. And I had to cut and drill out the bracket to fit, but none of it was done for lightness, just making it fit. My mechanic friend had a fit when he saw it and said, “Can’t anybody just drive a car anymore?” I replied, driving 5+ hours on I-5 with a cold beverage between my legs gets old real fast. He saw my point.
