Mark, what will you use for sound deadening on the rear seat and parcel shelf?

Johan

I was thinking inside eng compartment. Probably some dynamat and another thin layer insulation. Not really any intake noise on the 3.6

Tremelune 02-20-2018 04:19 PM

Intake or no, most of the engine noise comes in through the rear sheetmetal (according to my ears with windows up...though my seats are gone). Lots of heat also comes through there. I was thinking about using this when mine came out:

VB-TSM is a sound absorber, blocker and thermal control material all in one!

Just got steel backdate light boxes from Dave at TRE this week. Car was at body shop for the last month getting doors and rear fenders prepped for paint. Got almost all my honey-do's done and ready to weld and grind on the beast! Thanks to Dave Kealoha for loaning me an original steel longhood for mockup of the light boxes. Pics to follow.

Mark, I am doing a long hood conversion on my 83 SC coupe (wide body car) much like you are. I plan to have the front turn signal boxes and fender extensions from Dave at TRE installed in 2 weeks. Curious if you installed the new front bulkhead on your car to accommodate the new long hood? Or are you using a short hood that has been extended? Any tips for installing the glass bumpers as that is my current unknown. Dave Kealoha was good enough to sell me one of his front bumpers and has been a great help offering advice along the way, which is much appreciated. Thanks, Greg

such nice car and work

Tremelune 03-21-2018 08:58 AM

I'm interested in the hood bit as well. I have (what I believe to be) a longhood on my shorthood car, and the thing just sits on the bulkhead with a 1" gap from the bumper, with no latch. My plan was to buy a Getty backdate hood...which will involve paint...

I am having a short hood extension made in metal. I have seen it done before and it came out very nice. Not chopping the front bulkhead is a big plus. I hope to post pics of the hood soon. I am using the same bumpers as Dave K's last two builds.

Short hood extension done. Came out very nice with edges rolled and inner panel for strength. Notice old latch position is retained so SC latch panel can be left alone. Big thanks to Dave Kealoha for help on the hood and the whole project.

Painted last week and came home for long weekend. Best weekend ever hanging parts!
A co-worker suggested having a stock decklid painted along with the ducktail and now I prefer the smoothback look.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527373433.JPGhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527373490.JPG

I'm doing a similar back-date project on my 1983 SC coupe. I decided to install the long hood front bulk-head and a long hood off a pre-1974 car. Also, I'm installing a 964 electric spoiler decklid with a Singer style spoiler (sourced from the UK) as I like the flat back with the 930 flares. I used Dave Kealoha's glass front bumper as well. All the welding and rust repairs are now complete. I'm cleaning the wheel wells and undercarriage for fresh undercoater. That's not a nice job on a beautiful weekend like this, but it has to get done. Then suspension goes back on. Mine should be ready for paint in the next month. Cheers.

Looks great Mark, even better in person!

Greg you should start a thread with pictures of your progress, or do you already have one?

Great fabrication skills. That hood extension sure worked.

skidmark 05-31-2018 08:16 PM

Motor getting cosmetic upgrades also. 3.2 Carrera side tins with new 993 plug wires running through them. Rest of sheet metal and motor mount is modified 911SC to fit 3.6. I also installed 3.0 oil cooler on the 3.6 case 10 years ago. Valve covers are billet Tarett Engineeringhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527826454.JPG

This! It looks like my setup...so naturally I love it! :-) Looks like maybe a cerekote finish.
