Same.
Trying to learn from past mistakes.

I'd rather tear the motor back down than dig into this trans. I rate transmission work just behind coolant and bodywork on the list of things I don't want to do.
I loathe coolant. I hate the way it smells. I hate the way it feels. I hate the way it soaks into and ruins everything.

Same. I think it's all the specialized tools and fixtures.

And automatics? Pure voodoo. I get they have TCs and valve bodies but no matter how many times I read about them, they make zero sense.

Good luck Chris, will be interesting to see what's going on in your trans when you pull it.

I've been dealing with my leaky foundation.
I started demoing in the garage to prepare for the upcoming repairs and in doing so, I removed all the material (insulation and paneling) that was absorbing water. This made the water intrusion into the basement that much worse.

Then we got 2+" of rain over the weekend. I didn't get a lot of sleep.

I've only driven the car, not worked on it.
So not a whole lot to update.

I did receive packages from CMS & WEVO yesterday. I consolidated them and that made for a disappointingly small box worth $2500.

Happy, but sad.

Good luck with that basement.
So does the LBDC sleep outside during garage demo?

Yet undetermined...but really only a concern if it's going to rain those two days.
I may borrow a garage spot from a neighbor. I have a couple weeks to figure it out.

Ugh. Good luck with basement stuff. I had a leak a few years ago, downspout was not connected to extension properly, and under heavy rains the rain would just fly off the roof (inside corner) so I buitl a deflector to direct the water into the gutter. No issues since. Hopefully you're as lucky.

I wish.
We're having French drains installed under the foundation in both the garage and basement.
Hooray for block foundations.

That should help a ton! Protip: pay a little more to put in a pipe that goes up to the surface near the highest point so you can run a clean out. Good luck, did one 35' long and 3.5' deep by hand with a mattock and shovel. Sucked.

I have a solid poured foundation- 16” thick and it cracked and caused water ingress. Demoing the finished basement and repairing the cracks was a really fun use of $20k. French drain is totally the way to go and the clean out is a great idea too.

The other thing we did that made a huge difference was fix all our crappy gutters that were dumping rain into the house and regrade the landscaping away from the house; move the water away…good luck, it’s only getting wetter in the middle west… ugh.

If the soil is so expansive you have a 16" slab that broke there are two potential issues; too wet and too dry.
If you ever have a drought run a drip line around the footing and keep it damp

Not much to report lately. I was in the Poconos for a wedding last weekend and this weekend I'll be doing more demo work on the garage and basement ahead of next week's foundation work.

I did just spend $500 on maintenance stuff for the Q5. So maybe I'll have a Q5 update coming soon. (I know you're all super excited to watch me change a water pump, tstat, sparkies, and the oil in the supercharger.)

EDIT:
This car has me reconsidering my whole approach to the end goal of the LBDC.

I have yet to see something come out of Paul Stephens' shop that I didn't love.
That guy has impeccable taste and the cars are built to incredible spec.

Stripped down silver short hood with big wheels and a duck tail, sounds fermillyer.

Mega brief update today.

I originally set a completion date of my 50th birthday. As today is my 44th birthday, I still think my goal is achievable.

Not much else to share other than I worked myself like a dog this past weekend. Basement & garage are prepped for the foundation work, mowed, pulled some fence posts, trimmed some low-hanging limbs, and burned all the wood. I was tired yesterday, feeling pretty good today.

Kelly is taking me out for dinner tonight, and I've been daily-ing the 911 since we got back from PA. Can't really work on it aside from tinker with the tune as the garage is an absolute 5hit5how.

Stay well, my friends. I'll be in touch soon. (you know I'm always planning the next steps of the build)

So you're saying there's hope for the LBDC...

Hell yeah! Birthday Buddies!

Yesterday was my friend Joe's birthday. I was on the phone with Pawel and Joe called him. I let Pawel go and next thing you know, I'm on a party call with Pawel, Joe, and Joe's lady Mack. Then we conferenced in Brandon. I had my phone on speaker so Kelly could participate. I can't tell you the last time I was on a party call, much less one that was that much fun. Lots of belly laughs and then we started swapping pics in a group text. Late September birthday friends are all riotous good fun.
i'll get you in next year.

I became a PCA member yesterday AM and then bought tickets for RR7 last night.
#scenepoints

Who all will I get to meet IN PERSON next year?

The foundation work commences any minute now, so I'm driving the car and not working on it...still.
