This pretty much sums up the calculus for me. On US roads, anything after a 997 is just too good at going fast to enjoy, in my experience.

It's legit rained 8 of the last 9 times I've driven the damned thing. I'm starting to think Mother Nature is trying to guide my decision.
I feel the pain Chris, I sold my last 911 with AC and my current (driving...) Carrera 3.2 doesn't have it either, really reduces the enjoyment of the car if you are always sitting in a pool of sweat when it's nice out. Many sunny days and e.g. trips to weddings we are not doing in it because of that, especially if my partner comes along because she doesn't want to put up with it.

I'm really looking forward to the new version of the Classic Retrofit electric AC to come out, when it's combined with heat. It's definitely expensive but the added enjoyment does still give good value for the money, unlike some other mods us gearheads tend to do...

I'm still in teething stage of my 911, but I couldn't see it being my only car. It's loud, but unapologetically analog.

The daily driver for me is a manual F80 M3. Relatively quiet, stupid good gas mileage, torque for days and easy to get in and out of.

I got lots of questions once the Porsche was (mostly) finished if I would get rid of the M3, but not a chance. I can't stand driving unengaging cars, and the M3 fits the whole family and golf clubs as needed.

Sell the Q, sell the TACO, sell Kelly’s car, buy the Porsche, keep the LBDC.

You’re welcome, I’ll have my secretary send you the invoice for consulting services rendered.

CR AC/heat is a great idea. An expensive idea, but one worthy of consideration. It significantly impedes my ability to buy fancy dampers. But it's worth considering.

I had an e36 M3 that I loved to death. If I could get an e36 or e46 with a DCT, that would be a tenable second. But if I'm going to replace the Q5 with a sportscar, Kelly has to be able to drive it. (she won't; or at least not very often)

I like where your head's at. But Kelly still goes to the office 3 days a week and the dog has to go the vet from time to time and there is no way on God's green Earth I'm putting a dog inside a 911 (or Cayman).
I know, I know. Sell the dog too. But Kelly has grown quite fond of Stella these past 11 or 12 years.

Used half a tube of 3M weatherstrip adhesive and re-sealed the top 1/3 of the hood seal. I could see where after the water piled up a little, it would push under the seal into the trunk. Should be sorted now.
Yesterday, Corey came over and I installed my manual (parallel) window regs in his car and started installing his power (parallel) regs into my car. I also added a large layer of closed-cell foam based sound deadening on the inside of the door skins.
The windows are in and operational, but I have to grease the regs and make a small repair panel for the driver’s door where some dickfer cut out the switch holes.
.
.
I have a WOSP alternator and a couple small bits in my Pelican cart. Trying to decide if I pull the trigger now or wait for a potential July 4 sale.

Have done the same: the top corners of my hood seal were splitting a little. Some gloves, a liberal smear of our favorite black goop, and a few rubs back and forth = no water ingress for over a year. Even at speed during Ruchlos :-)

The two sports car solution is tricky. For me, one needs to be open air and the other a coupe. Given my climate situation, the winter car needs a tin top. Your climate is milder so a 997.2 cab with PDK would be a solid daily/ice cream/dog grooming car and would offer a different experience than LBDC.

I've learned over the years that if you want a happy wife, make sure she has access to a convertible sports car. Also of note, my parent's dog loves riding in the back of the targa. 911s are dog cars for sure.

All of this is gross.
No convertibles ever.
No dogs in cars I like or intend to keep long-term. My allergies exclusively preclude me from riding in cars with pets...and some people.

.
I'm going to keep chipping away at the LBDC with the target of collecting a 997 next year.
.
To that end, I've ordered more seals and a WOSP alternator today. I expect I'll have the car back on the road this coming Sunday if all goes to plan.

hahahahaha pay the coupe tax but you'll never know what it's like to buy a new flat screen at Best Buy and slide it behind the seats like a surf board. Yes, I'm aware of Amazon but I like to do dumb stuff too.

What do either of us know about transporting surf boards? We live in the Midwest!

I'd be less opposed to softtop cars were it not for my aversion to water ingress combined with living somewhere where we barely get enough nice weather to have a sporty tin top.

LOL.
If you ever see me outside without a hat on my head, it's likely in my hand.

Seems like a simple concept. I've seen Point Break. The original one of course.

Power windows are in and new door panels made.
Last night, I installed the WOSP 175a alternator...and then drove the Taco to work today.
I'll try to get pics of both this weekend.

So I brought home a template that I lasered at work.

Test fit looked promising, but not quite right

Stop looking at my hole(s).

After many measurements and raft of new templates, it was time for Tegris.

Result!

And I took the 911 to the hardware store to buy tiny screws to secure the upper door velvet seals.

The new alternator may make the car run better. Or it could be the upgraded ground cable…or the temperature. I’ll know more when I drive it a little more.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Can confirm that the car idles better with the new alternator and alternator ground cable.
I'm not pulling the alternator to discern which is the source of the improvement, but the car is 100% idling better on cold start, hot start, and while running/driving.
Temps confirmed 60*F to low-90s F.

A smooth-idling car will garner ~10% higher selling price.
Good work.
