FS: 911 CIS to Megasquirt Conversion “kit”

For Sale: Conversion kit to replace your 911 CIS with Megasquirt 2 EFI. $1300 including shipping. I will entertain reasonable offers, and accept them in the order of PMs received rather than thread responses.

I collected these parts with the intention of replacing the CIS on my 3.0 911 motor when the CIS system started to become problematic. Since that never happened, and the car is now sold, it is time to let go of my package of goodies. I hesitate to say this is “complete” because I am sure there are some bits you would need to purchase to complete the installation, but this should be all the big stuff, and most of the small stuff too.

Here is a list of what I have, followed by pictures of all of it:
CIS Intake Runners: These are the “small” runners found typically on a US Spec 3.0.
CIS Airbox: This is the cut down airbox that went with the runners. The grey pipe is a pop off valve, though it is a different design than what we usually see, it appears to function just fine. This box has been cut down to minimum size possible and does not appear to be cracked or damaged.
CIS Throttle Body: This is also the one that came with the above runners and airbox. The throttle butterfly moves freely and it appears intact. In the pictures you will see it all disassembled. The hardware is included to the extent I have available.
K&N Air filter: this fits directly on the Throttle body. New, never used.
Fuel pressure regulator- this is new never used
Open Element IAT sensor- GM new part, includes uncrimped connector and pins. From DIY Autotune.
Closed Element CLT or IAT sensor- new part, includes uncrimped connector and pins. From DIY Autotune.
Used Ford fuel injectors- may want to send these out to be cleaned and flow checked. Includes 2 spares.
Megasquirt 2 control box- This was purchased used, and appears to work fine based on testing with the STIM and using the MS computer GUI.
Megasquirt STIM board- this is new, only used to test the MS2 box above. Complete as purchased.
Megasquirt Wiring Harness, 12’- this is new never used.
USB to serial adapter to connect MS2 box to your PC. This is the adapter that is endorsed / recommended to work with MS and was tested and functional.
Bosh EV1 style fuel injector connectors, 6pcs: These are new connectors to add to the MS wiring harness once you have the lengths figured out. They include pins to crimp so you do not have splices in your new wiring.
Fuel Rails with fuel rail mounting hardware- these came new from BITZ racing.
EFI injector bungs to install in runners- new from BITZ racing
Set of used gaskets for the intake runners to the heads, and a set of used runners to airbox fittings with clamps.

You'd have to put that question to the experts on the tech board. I suspect no issue on a CIS 2.7 or a 3.0, but wouldn't want to speculate on a pre-CIS motor just because I personally don't know.

This is tempting, as I am considering the bitz kit.

Hi, Matt,

Between DIY Autotune, and BITZ Racing, you can get everything you need except the airbox, runners, and air filter I have here. A good portion of what I have here came from these guys. If anyone needs it, here is a link to the partial BITZ racing CIS to EFI kit. http://www.bitzracing.com/products/Partial_EFI_KIT/index.html It sells for $1549, and you get the EFI harness already built, and built very nicely I might add. With what I have you need to wire it yourself.

A couple thoughts I had on the BITZ kit when I was collecting parts. First, they were at the time, and may still be, using the Megasquirt I box vs the Megasquirt II that I purchased. MS2 has a faster processor and some additional features which I thought might be useful when I went to ignition control in phase 2. Also, MS in general is batch fired injection, and (at the time, maybe still) the BITZ kit batch fired by bank. I wanted to wire a little differently to batch fire in ignition order, which meant the BITZ harness wasn't exactly what I wanted. Just personal thoughts and preferences, but wanted to share what drove my decisions.

All in good fun. Someone needs to buy this and create a good DIY thread while they install it so I can watch, since I never got to it myself.

Best wishes to all, and thanks for your interest.

Morrie

I've had a few questions about the injectors. There are 8 of them (2 spares in this case) and they are Bosh part number 280150945, Ford PN F1SEE5A. They are 30 pound injectors.

I will ship internationally, and will cover the first $30 of postage for any shipment outside the CONUS. As I mentioned above, I will cover 100% of the shipping, packaging, and PP fees for anyone who purchases and ships to the CONUS.

You'd be best served by doing searches on the technical forum to get feedback on that. One thing I have heard is that the throttle response is much more crisp. Where the big gains come in is when you start adding options to control spark/timing. The parts to do that are not included in this kit, but the MS-2 does support this. To learn more about that, again, the search feature on the 911 technical BBS is your friend since I never got that far (sold car).

I second that suggestion, but after the work the PO did installing and tuning the Megasquirt on my car (MS2 with EDIS ignition, Elgin Super SC cams, otherwise stock rebuilt '80 SC engine) it dynoed at a wheel output that was the same as the stock crank rating, so figure +10-15% or whatever driveline losses are reasonable for this powertrain. Plus the drivability and throttle response mentioned above.

This is about as complete a kit as you can get minus the specifics related to the specific install.

If only I had CIS to replace. Oh wait... I already did.

Free Bump for Morrie. Great seller.

Thanks Jamie. We just need to connect the parts with the person who needs them. Once you sit down with a calculator and start adding up the cost to assemble this, you realize in a hurry that your out of pocket will be way more than the asking price.

Another point of clarification. This does not include the complete engine bay wiring harness, but it does include everything needed to make it. You can run and dress the wires however you think is most efficient, set your own lengths, and terminate the connections at both the engine and firewall wherever you see fit. All the wires in the harness are labeled with the name of the function they provide stamped right on the wires. It is really not difficult at all.
