1966 Porsche 912
In early November I had finally convinced (after years of bugging him)my grandpa to bring his 1966 Porsche to my house so my dad and I can work on it. He said that he blew the motor racing in the late 90's and it has been sitting in a garage ever since. The body is in great shape and has been re-painted. The car was originally beige as the Vin described. I have some basic pictures of the old engine and the new engine we bought.

Go to the 912 bbs. People look there more often. Go to the renegade section. They will answer any questions you got.

I've done a couple of these conversions and IMO the easiest solution to the throttle is a universal cable which runs from the bellcrank on the trans. up through the fan housing and finally to the carb. This basically converts from Porsche (rods and levers) to VW (cable.) See example in link below. Starting at the bellcrank, replace the linkage ball for the "coathanger" rod with a new one that fits the threaded end of the kit. Run the cable to the carb remembering that the sheath must be fixed or stopped at both ends. The cable can now run through the carb throttle and fastened with the stock barrel nut. Leave a little extra cable incase you need to adjust the slack. Also, how are you addressing the rear motor mount on the car? Mr Gasket 5657 Throttle Cable | Auto Parts Warehouse |

We fabricated a quarter inch steel plate that bolts into the 4 bolts just below the flywheel. this plate is roughly 10 inches tall and about 8 inches wide and we cut the Porsche Z shaped mounts that go to the beam that connects to the mounts on the right and left of the engine compartment. The Z shaped mounts were bolted to the beam and welded to the plate we fabricated. I will put pictures up soon. They will explain and show what I am talking about much better than I can.
We also had to cut the tin that covers the flywheel and farther back to the rear of the car because the VW motor is shaped different. We created angle iron to keep the tin from sagging in the back and creating a gap between the seal and the tin. Hope that helps. Pictures coming soon. |

![]() It's hard to see because we painted it black but it comes up just to the bottom of the distributer. ![]() Here is before it was painted. Kind of a rusty color. The quarter inch plate is very strong even with cuts made to it.

He's adapting to the original early flatbar 912 mount, so the vibrations would be the same as a 912 engine setup. Aaron: Did you use an oil pump stud extension kit to connect to your adapter? |

The studs we used were out of a Type 2 bus engine mount adapter kit. Once installed we trimmed them down so that there was clearance for the flywheel. However the studs can be bought at a hardware store and cut to the right length. We did have one problem with one of the original studs though. From a previous build one of the studs stripped out and they re-drilled the hole one size larger. We had to use the original stud in that hole and it was barely long enough.

So we have been messing around and thinking about the throttle linkage. We finally made a bracket and mounted it just behind the cooling fan tin and right above where the transmission and motor connect. Here's some pics...
