Type-5 powered 914

Well I was thinking of going with the Mazda Kzle motor but after looking at all the plumbing and a KEP adapter , I tacked, and am going for the Type-5 Oxyboxer. A little Sheetmetal fitting looks alot simpler than running all those coolant lines. A FAT 911 Shroud and a Pair of 44 IDFs. 2130 cc. and lighter than the type-4. Steve

If I read that site correctly, it's basicly a Type IV engine case fitted with VW Bug Type I heads on it???

I like the idea of watercooled heads, too bad the Wasserboxer heads have the exhaust in the "wrong" location for our 914's.

Its a Vanagon watercooled motor that is converted to air cooled.it uses Air cooled heads. I am going to use Type-3 heatexchangers and Dansk Type-3 mufflerhead pipes set up and a 911 twin inlet single out let. This Motor allows you to use all the type-1 performance parts. 130 hp is no problem with these motors

This photo shws one installed in a bug for a 914 the cooling tin would be similiar. Steve

Steve--

I've been looking at the same option and on paper it looks like a good performance/cost ratio. Do you know if there are any engine-mounting issues? Another consideration would be the need for a custom exhaust. One more benefit I can see is that it would make installing a T1 turbo kit a viable option On the down side, I doubt if it would be PCA legal..

Regards,

BWB

The exhaust is not a real big deal by going with the T-3 set up the down pipes are flanged to match a Stock two inlet muffler this is where I am going to go two into one then back to a 911 muffler. The stock 2.0 cross bar looks like it will fit. I may change to the early motor mounts in place of the 73 style and solid mount the motor to the 73 bar. Steve

I'm doing a T-5 engine right now....

I'm developing mine for high torque in heavy applications, but not for a 914.

The T5 requires ALOT of custom work, and without a lathe and a Mill don't attempt it.
