Danske vs. Bursche Exhaust

When I first got my car, I replaced the orig exhaust (full of holes) with a new Dansk Muffler.

The car sounds much better but I don't feel the sound has great "tone"

I'm wondering what your opinions are about the Bursch Quiet Street (this is for a 1.8).

I want to retain a close to stock sound (i.e., not too loud, no glass pacs, etc) but before I spend another $200 I thought I might inquire within.

Your comments would be great.............................Vern

I'm not familiar with the Dansk muffler. I've got the Bursch "Quiet Street" on my 2.0 and I think it is quite loud. I should note though that I have carbs, and when they are really well balanced the car is not nearly as load, and has a fairly deep tone which may be what you are looking for (but when balance is bad it is "amplified" and sounds like a Harley-Davidson). FI might be more successfull in producing a nice tone.

i am in the same boat, not familiar with dansk but have a bursch exaust and i also notice that aftaer i adjust my carbs it sounds lower and sounds terrific, but when they are really out of whack... it sounds like i have a very restrictive muffler. i like my set-up but aggree that FI might be a better option for getting that low clean note.

I have the Bursch muffler w/ FI on my 2.0. It has a nice low throaty rumble to it. I like it. It is still kinda loud though.

I feel the Dansk is loud at idle and I'm not to crazy about the sound...a guy at work wanted to know if my car always sounded like a tractor. ....but get the RPMs up to around 3k and it sounds much better. Plus it seems to quiet down in the cabin around that 3k mark. It's easy to carry on conversations at driving speeds with the top off.

With SS exchangers and the SS skin of the Dansk, you get a lot of that "header ring" I think it's called. Which adds to the tone.

I should also add that I haven't heard enough 914's to know what the different systems sound like.
