Me too.

I can't wait to get this engine apart. I picked it up today along with a somewhat complete 1.7. Both look like they need attention but have potential.

What I can tell so far is that the "2.0" is build on an EB case, but has 2.0 heads. Good sign.

Unfortunately it didn't come with any tin, ignition, exhaust, or induction. As soon as I get it apart I can start making a list of parts to look for at the next swap...

You got it backwards Jeff. You need to put German pistons on chevy engines (like my monster corvair powerplant)

I just quit my job effective this Wed so that I can take care of whats important (I am hard core). The block and heads are at the shop being modefied, and I just ordered the internal bearings and doodads. So far I am waaaay below my estimated price. I have had great luck sourcing parts and services. The fires down here are putting a slight kink in my progress, but that is the very least of the problems down here.

Good for you... I've been busy with my new job here but I am starting to get back into my 914 projects again. Looks like I will be rebuilding an engine if I can get enough useful parts out of these two.

I also got the wideband oxygen sensor kit I ordered from Tech Edge (in Australia) last week. It looks like it's going to be a lot of work to put together but it will be cool to be able to hook up a Palm Pilot and watch my air fuel ratio in realtime as I drive. I need to weld in a threaded port on my exhaust too.

I took some rough measurements tonight after I got the heads off.

Looks like ~94mm bore, ~71mm stroke. Sounds pretty stock to me! No wild shims or massive head work although there are some pretty badly helicoiled exhaust studs and stuff. I guess that can all be fixed when the heads are rebuilt $$$$.

The cylinders were rusty but no significant pitting that I have seen yet. There was some water in the crankcase along with oil sludge. The rods have surface rust. Some of the rings are midly rusted to the pistons.

I am interested to see what is inside the case and how much is reusable. Maybe I got a pretty good deal after all.

Ok, I got the pistons off. It took some pounding on the wrist pins which I was not happy with.

I don't think these are chevy pistons at all.

On bottom they say GER, KS 1275, and 094019.

On top there is an arrow and 03 97.

Does that mean these are German??

GERman, hum. What is the diameter? Were they floating wrist pins?

My 2.4/4 has JE pistons that interchange with a 350 small block.....they use a 103mm barrel.

I think they are about 94mm. I need to measure more precisely now that they are not flopping around on the rods.

By floating wrist pins do you mean that they are retained by two circlips? If so, yes they are.

The KS makes me think they are Kolbenschmidt pistons. KS was an OEM supplier for these motors. They're good quality, generally.

The wrist pins come out with some force--they should not just slide out. Br@d had a particular socket extension that was just the right size to use as a mandrel for tapping them out with a hammer. They are, in addition, held in with circlips.

Sounds like the whole bit about the chevy pistons was BS then... making this whole thread pointless.

How do I tell if they are cast or forged? All stock pistons were forged, right? I think these have casting marks on the bottom but I am not sure.

I guess this is not really very important since I will probably be replacing the P/C anyway. Some of the cylinder bores are pretty badly rusted and I have not even measured wear yet.
